Re: Sidecar Manuals for Newbs (and old pharts too)
Thanks for sharing! I'm trying to find the best info possible to learn my new Ural cT (planning to take a course but not until October).JohnBG wrote:I found this manual which I think is the "yellow book" while cleaning off an old hard drive the other day...
It's kind of dated as it shows how to kickstart a 650 with the old bird's nest airbox and shutter, but all of the riding exercises should still be good for new bikes...
Can someone familiar with both tell me if this PDF have pretty much the same info as the Yellow Book? Or would it still be worth buying the yellow book?
Thanks

It is pretty much the same as the yellow book, just ignore the instructions on how to kick start a 650.1chapelcredit wrote:Thanks for sharing! rougaroo wrote:This is an old manual called "How to Ride the Classic Ural Motorcycle" prepared especially for Ural . The pictures are very cool, with demonstrations of leaning techniques and beginner's exercises on how to take turns, etc. Have no idea what the story is on the origins of the book, but all the pictures are of 650 bikes, so it is definitely before the IWMA era.
I'd recommend this for anyone who is thinking about getting a Ural/Dnepr or for those who just gotten one and are trying to figure out the physics. Although it seems pretty simplistic, if you read closely there are very good descriptions about what to do and not to do on a sidecar in a tight right turn, basic motorcycle alertness and safety factors, etc.
This link is apparently in Finland, but I've downloaded a copy in case the link dies:http://www.lap.ttu.ee/xj600/ural/HowToRide.pdf

Here is another link to the same manual. I got this from a Russian tour company

Link doesn't work.JohnBG wrote: ↑Sun Oct 04, 2009 8:30 pmSince IMWA isn't including the yellow "Driving the Sidecar Outfit" book with new bikes any longer, it was suggested that these United Sidecar Association manuals might be good information for new (and Old) sidecar pilots.

Posted nearly 10 years ago! Not very surprising. The eternal problem with web links, they can tend to disappear over time
