Yes, a few people have asked my why I could not just buy a Harley, so I explained the specifications and the history that this vehicle has and they quickly shut it. I also explained I am not the Harley image. Reminds me of the episode of South Park that made fun of Harley's.

Only negativity I've ever gotten has been from the BMW snobs. Silliness like "If ya wanted a BMW why not buy a real one?"
Screw'em. I don't care what you ride. I only care what I ride.

Yeah - they can say all they want until you stick it into reverse and back out of a parking space. Then their jaws drop...

Ya my son and I picked my Ural up in Pontiac Michigan so we went through Canada to Niagara Falls NY to get home to CT. It was in the back of my pickup. The American custom agent asked me for the bikes paper work my truck paper work and my drivers licence. He also asked why i bought a Russian motorcycle. He told me to pull over into parking space 3. My son was 13 at the time and he got scared that we were going to jail for some reason. We sat there for about 2 hours then another custom agent came out gave me all my paper work back and said we could leave. I pulled my wallet out and counted my money. I asked that customs agent if the fine for knocking the $hit out of a customs agent was more than the $280.00 had in my wallet. He told me that he understood how i felt and that the other agent was an a$$hole but he said I'd better just get in my truck and drive off.

The BMW group left me a card to call them from a friend at work. He does know what I ride. Even the Harley riders asked me to ride along when the New Hampshire bike week comes up. I have had good response from all the people I come in contact with. Even parking lots. Met a gentleman today in the Walmart lot from Brazil that talked how this would be big thing down there.

99 percent of people have been good. I ran into somebody once in SE Washington state that was a bit of an a$$, but once I put it in reverse, I think he had a greater understanding.

I've had several members of the local BMW club invite me to their weekly Saturday morning breakfasts. Unfortunately I work every weekend.

I was wondering , you know how people can be . A guy I know used to get on me about my DR 650 dual sport , always talked about how much his Harley was worth and how cool it looks . He rode it less than 1000 miles a year , but I guess an a$$ for every seat .
I like the reverse comments , I have seen guys pushing their pig trikes out of parking lot spaces , I can't wait to experience that ! Lol

The most negative comments I get are actually from Russians. First they are amazed that these rigs are here in the U.S., then they ask why would I want a piece of $#!+? Usually followed up by, "How much did you pay for it." When I tell them, most times they start laughing like I got seriously ripped off. As they say, "one man's garbage, another man's treasure."
When I got my 1976 XS650C Yamaha new as a kid, my friends all rode Triumph's, BSA's and Harley's. They all gave me $#!+ of why I bought a JAP bike. We spent more time wrenching on those bikes and I hardly ever did much on my Yamaha except for routine maintenance. The big thing with my Yamaha was keeping spare carbon brushes for the strator which would wear out after about 8,500 miles. Literally a 5 min. swap out.
Personally, I never understood why a certain brand rider would give another brand rider $#!+ over what they rode. Who cares? As long as more people are out riding motorcycles it makes it better for all of us. I think the whole, "my bike is better than your bike" is childish.

I've had people say "Russian ?!?", but only one person spit venom.

I was at a gas station and several people gathered to ogle my filthy bug-splattered rig. I began the standard UDF speech we all know so well.

A blinged-out super-clean Honda Gold Wing pulled up next to me and apparently he didn't like the lack of attention his bike was getting. He turned his stereo up, still no lookers. He shut his bike down then asked, "Who makes that ?" "Ural," I reply, "it's Russian." "RUSSIAN ? he says. "You traitor !" "Traitor ?" I say calmly. "Russia never attacked us, but Japan DID (pointing to his bike), and killed thousands of Americans, most were still asleep. Yet I'M the traitor ?"

The crowd did the Oooo's and Ahhh's and laughed.

The Gold Winger said nothing, just hit the starter, clicked his bike in first gear and rode away.

Truth be told, that was a damn nice 'Wing.... :P

Didnot buy bike for UDF, could care less what other think, ussually I don't stay long enough in one place, got to keep moving. Just me :)

The only H-D crowd that seem to spew off at the mouth are the "Credit Card Bikers"...they walk into the dealership, buy a brand new HD and load all the chrome they can on it, walk over to the clothing section and get suited up with everything down to H-D embroidered underwear, walk over to the jewelry section for a little H-D bling then slap a credit card down...Jump on her and drive on over to the local coffee shop, park and stand there on a 90 degree day in full leathers and a do-rag drinkin hot coffee waitin for some one to compliment their bike
