I'm thankful that there are not ad boxes inbetween posts.
I should hope not, if I'm paying for this service!

I hate to even type these words as my wife is neck deep in the corporate world and we deal with it commonly - branding.
This is one of the best forums for Modern Russian/old Soviet hacks on the web. Said.
However, the look of this forum is quite generic; can something be done? It is difficult to see the generic phpBB graphic day-to-mf-day.
What can be done? Is someone willing to take several cycles and manage the look? Hell, I'll do it if I don't have to look at the lame generic phpBB logos.
Is there some way to move forward?

It's a simple boiler plate program often cheap or free as a incentive to use their services. It's the web hosting that gets expensive. I like it simple knowing that farklies are unnecessary and pricey

SS did once have its own logo, but there was an update and it was lost in the process. Not sure how easy it is to restore it. Only John B knows.

About 10 years ago when I was an admin on another forum (still am technically), the other admin persuaded me to create another new 'skin' (style), previously he'd been paying someone else to do it, but was getting more expensive. Like an idiot I said yes. What happens is every time you get an update from the forum software vendor, which you have to do eventually because of security issues etc., it often 'breaks' the skin. So also needs updating or in the case of major changes in an update, doing over again from scratch. Took me at least 2 months, working it on it solid every day, and when done and uploaded the community just take the p!ss out of it and complain about bits that don't work or whatever. In other words don't expect much praise. Except from the other adimn.

2 - 3 years ago another motorbike forum I'm a member of, a club forum at that, paid some design house GBP £20,000 to change the design of theirs, also a phpBB brand. Took them nearly a year to do it and it was sh!te. Broken from day one and a PITA to use, compared to unmolested phpBB3 which always worked no problem. It did get better eventually but painfully slowly.

However the hackers have now got hold of it cos it was never updated (so different from the original, just impossible) so it's now scrap, and someone else is now hosting the forum on their own website with phpBB. Voluntarily. So much for the £20,000. :o

To be fair the idea was to also have club members details filed in the same database as what the forum uses, so the staff can stop wrestling with paper and filing cabinets or whatever, however many club members still think the design house took the club to the cleaners. (Britsih slang for conned.)

So no, other than the SS logo, more trouble than it's worth in my experience. It ain't broke so don't fix it.

Just IMHO

+1 on leaving things alone.

Yeah, but phpBB IS broke!
You can't preview your posts without losing your images, it doesn't work with Tapatalk, and I don't know if anyone else has experienced this, but since switching, I have to re-log-in every time I connect to a new network, such as going from a cell 'phone network to my home's Wi-Fi. Just a bunch of minor annoyances that the previous software didn't have.
At least it's secure from hacks, I guess.

Maybe you either don’t post with photos or for some reason you’re not affected. Regardless, there are enough of us who are having enough issues that the site is not user friendly the way it was. As much as I dislike FB I post more there because I can easily and don’t wish to hassle with SS.

John, functionality over style is my motto, but the horse is a nice touch.
