sales question

Post by chaos2 » Wed Feb 22, 2023 3:40 pm

I know different forums have different policies on this, if I put some Ural related items on eBay would it be appropriate to put a link to them in the black market here?
Past afflictions include limey cars and motorbikes, an R60/2, R65ls, & a Citroen.
Now bunch of bicycles, a still running '87 K75s,
and a trusty & rusty 2012 GU bought new
Dual K&N cones on homemade PVC intake, 40/137.5
Raceway needles, Modtop pipes, E starter delete
$29 VW Hydraulic steering dampener

I am not a moderator...but...

I don't see why not. You will be advertising your own items for sale. But, if you're not going to do auction style sale it would be more appealing to advertise here at fixed prices, you will avoid ebay fees, your buyers will avoid the sales tax as well. :D

It is appropriate for the members of this forum to put links from Ebay, Craigslist and elsewhere in the Black Market and state: "It is not mine/not affiliated...".

What do you have? Send me the list first. :sarcasm:

Last line in the Forum Rules section of the Black Market: “put it on eBay and post a link to your item's auction on eBay here.”…

My only question is: Why wouldn’t you post your wares here on SS? Give your comrades first crack at all the goodies…

Couple reasons, I like to start the bid low and it's more likely to get bid up for more than I thought it would go for, and the cheaper eBay shipping, guarantees and payment makes up for the cut they take. (not that I've ever had any problems selling on the forum)

Ebay takes 12.9% now, all inclusive. So if the sale is $75, shipping is $20, and tax is $5, they charge 12.9% on $100. That puts you back down to $62.10 after deducting fees + tax + shipping. And then they side with the buyer 99.9% of the time, even if it's a fraud. It just seems way too steep IMO to be worth the hassle most of the time.

At least on here you can choose to sell to 'distinguished members of the community' only and paypal takes 3% or nothing depending on how much you trust the buyer. You can always post things high and ask for suggestions of an appropriate price. We're not shy...

I Always have buyer pay shipping, that’s one variable I don’t need.

Oh man, I finally caught on that they tack the selling fee onto the buyer's home state's sales tax. At this point, if I have a "what do we do with this unwanted thing" that's not worth at least $25, I don't even bother listing it on eBay. (So it goes in a drawer until I close the business in 10-20 years, or else it goes in the trash. Or if I feel guilty about those options, I post it to a local motorcycle group for free and hope someone actually shows up.)

Almost 10% (9.5) tax where we are.
That's why in my view it doesn't make sense buying something used or NOS on eBay at half off. Better to buy new from a dealer.

A well known company that I used to work for some 10 years ago had good shipping deals with UPS. Shipping a 40-45 lb Pilates's machine costed only $5. Normally, according to its weight and size it would have been then around $40-45.
