Just tossing wood on the fire, but could this work as well?
"Their own brand" is just something else repackaged. I think it's Redline.

Don't know what it is, but they put that stuff in everything and charge you for 2 oz of gold....

LOL! The ONLY reason car oil is not recommended is because your wet clutch "may" slip a little easier. Since no wet clutch, car oil PERFECTLY fine in ANY dry clutch bike.

Here's my 1 cent worth: from what I've read, today's oil in general have a very much reduced zinc content. Studies found that Zinc causes degradation, then failure of the catalytic converters in modern vehicles. So, the EPA stepped in & mandated the gradual reduction of Zinc in modern oil formulations. The Ural, like old school bikes, have flat tappets & zinc provides lubrication properties to the metal to metal contact. ZDDP additives are sold mostly to hot rod enthusiasts...yep, they're still around. Yeah...back in the old days before the EPA, automotive oil was used in motorcycles cuz like most cars of yesteryears they had flat tappets. We were also not as conscious about the environment as the majority of us are today. I started adding ZDDP to the dyno-mix oil I used & quieted the engine some & seem to run cooler...power of suggestion...maybe??? I currently use synthetic oil (20w/50) with high Zinc contents. It was developed for the hot rod enthusiasts of today. My Ural is just happily humming along.

Been using the Z-Rod since July 2016...so far so good. Negligible swarf on the mag drain plug. Rig seem to run cooler too. I'm monitoring the oil temperature to find out how hot it'll get. I'll put this oil through a real road test this coming summer. I'll be scooting around the Western US & Vancouver Island, Canada.

I used valvoline vr1 oil in the 64 vw. Was said to be for the flat tappet cam, has plenty of friction modifiers for older motors. Marketed as "racing" oil which allows it to get past EPA regulated additive packages.

Would this be a good oil for the ural 750? Just courious since I just picked up one and want to do a fluid change before riding.
