New Urals and Motols First Oil and Long Term Engine

Post by RC20 » Sat Jul 21, 2018 3:17 pm

I have not been able to sort this out as Motul has 3000 synthetic and mineral.

In the new Urals, is the first oil a conventional for break in?

Is the next oil a Synthetic ?

20W=50W Dino for 11 years.

EFI is new (since 2014). Same old relic of a power plant. Have fun.

To be pedantic, the sequence was something like (but don't have the exact schedule with me)
1. Whatever the factory put in
@ 500km, but was stretched to 1,000km
2. Semi
@ 2,500km (1,000 service point skipped)
3. Semi
@ 5,000
3. Fully synth
And onwards

bit of a hijack, but are they shipped over with oil in the sump or does the dealer get to choose what to put in it?
past afflictions include limey motocars and bikes, R60/2 & a R65ls, and a Citroen.
Now a 2012 rusty GU and a 87 K75s with 200k miles both bought new
dual K&N cones on homemade intake, 40/137.5
Raceway needles
Modtop exhaust
$29 VW Hydraulic steering dampener

I was under the impression (by what dealer said) it came with.

Now that I'm back home and can look at service history, yes full synth was started at 5,000 km.

The Ural is shipped to the US with oil in the motor. Even 018's still call for the first oil change at 500km after initial break-in so doubt they would spend the extra for expensive syn lube just to be tossed out at 500km? Syn is slipperier than dino so I personally would not break-in a new motor with syn. I'd wait till at least a couple thou km. Even BMW says wait till the 6,000 km service before changing to syn lube. You motor your call.

Possibly drained from surplus Ilyushin Il-2's and T-34's?

It would be interesting to get definitive information.

Depends on buying used or new and dealer and the warranty as to what gets run how long.

Long term synthetic but as noted, break in faster on semi and maybe better yet convectional.

I don't know what the Passat had, good for 5 k though so suspect semi syn and not sure why they would use break in oil.
