Tonight I got the wheel off and BINGO it was just a brake shoe spring....So far. Luckily the one spring hung on cause the shoes slid out and fell as a pair and stayed together when the wheel was removed. Not a big deal but no guessing now which shoe was forward.

Forgive my ignorance but are these springs universal ? Meaning I can go to O Reillys with the good one and match it up or do I order them ¿?

The broken spring looks "older" besides just being scuffed a few places. The good one just looks fresh.

Before wheel removal I was rotating wheel and hearing a tight rubbery squeak. I now know where the "donut" is. :D Didn't feel any slack in wheel or donut assembly but the donut doesn't turn flat. It has a wobble. Is that normal ?

Hey Tim... just spotted this post. Get some "moly lube" paste for your drive splines, they look pretty dry. Any of the usual suspects should have the springs you need. Mark's Custom Cycle in Ventura would be the closest to you, Triquest (up in Santa Clara) would be next closest. Might as well replace both of them as a pair.

Thanks Lew
I guess by lack of response their is no aftermarket sources for springs. Will ride out to Marks tomorrow AM and kill two stones with a visit to my Aunt. Yes I put it all back w/o shoes. The itch to ride got me and I had a nice tour of familiar roads last evening

When I get the new springs think I will do all my splines. My FD oil looked great last time and as you saw the covers are off road safety wired so somebody at one time must've been in there. Again for a bike with only 1200kms ???

As far as the donut wobble. I did search the forum and found sufficient info. I had already done a visual and it was not cracked or holes worn, so I'm ok. As far as no replies to the wobble. I get it, :|

I'm gonna post a new question in a sec.

Mine wobbles a little bit. I believe it is normal.

I had the same problem and it turned out to the spring had broken and because I rode it for a while with that problem the brake shoes got torn up a bit. Open up before you leave it too late.

Get some "moly lube" paste for your drive splines, they look pretty dry.
You can also install a size 222 O-ring on your splines... it’ll fit right in the groove just inboard of the drive splines (red arrow)... help keep the grease where it belongs...

I wonder if that mod still works on the '14 and newer rigs?

The splined shaft diameter is the same, but the housing employs a different seal.

Every time I remove my wheel, I always remove the gunk that accumulates in the drain channel around the splined shaft.

Is the #222 o-ring mod intended to fill this channel?

On the pre-disc bikes... the O-ring fills the channel... it fits snugly between the wheel hub flange and the drive spline...
