Source for the little plug

Post by jgia » Thu Oct 15, 2015 9:06 pm

That covers the hole you use to find TDC? While prepping for a trip tonight I found it was missing.

Stole the plug from the side of the tub that closes the hole for the sidecar fuse box. I have a cT so there was a plug there instead of wires.

Now I'm short the little plug. For now I may just apply duct tape inside the tub until another plug is sourced.

So anyone know where I can get another plug or a close facsimile there of?

Any Ural dealer should have some . Also , I'm not certain , but a BMW airhead plug may be the same size .

A boat drain plug works just fine. I used a quarter in comparison to guesstimate the size, and went to the local ACE hardware store, and hit the marine aisle, Just watch the depth so you clear the flywheel.Insert, flip down the little dogleg lever, and you're good to go.

They are just a couple bucks from any dealer. And if you buy/order one (or two) chances are you will somehow find the one your are missing the day the new ones come in the mail. Ural Karma.

I measured the hole on the sidecar at 18mm. Then ordered a pack of 10 off amazon. Of course they appear to be coming from China as the expected delivery date is October 30th. Like I stated in the first post, the plug for the hole that would be for the sidecar fuse box wiring is the same size. I borrowed it for the time being and put it in the engine. I put some duct tape over the hole inside the car for the time being.

BTW thanks to one of Gobium's videos for pointing out those were the same plug used in both locations.

It's amazing how much noise comes out of that itty-bitty hole when the plug falls out.

I suspect that a cover intended for the small holes in an electrical junction box will fit.
Can't find one to check for sure--typical--but they're available cheap at your local hardware store.

Clean around the hole and use some non-hardening gasket sealer when you put he new one in.

They fit but usually fall out very quickly

Local hardware store. Rubber plug. Cut to fit.

Use a zip tie through it to make removal easier.
