Yet Another Donut Question 2013 Patrol (Version 2)
First, I apologize for the brain fart and posting this in Upcoming Rides the first time... I need to get to sleep.
After 2.5 years of searching, my wife and I were able to pull the trigger on a 2013 Patrol a month ago. We are both in love with it and we are working on getting our GSD used to the sidecar so we can take him on rides.
A couple weeks ago I noticed a vibration and noise that I'm 99.9% certain is the donut. It looks like it's wobbling and it "squeaks" when its rotating slowly. I took a video that I will (hopefully) embed so you can all see what I'm looking at. The rig is not on center the stand and being pushed forwards and backwards. I guess I'm looking for confirmation that is in fact the donut and that it needs to be replaced. If not, could the driveshaft not be level/straight causing my issues?
Tomcat asked if I had sprayed the donut with silicone. I did, but the noise went away but it came back about a day later.
I have to be at work at 0600 and it's almost 2300, so I might not respond until I get up in the morning. Thank you to everyone who takes the time to read this and respond.

None of the donuts I have ever installed were quite as loud as that. Also, if you've got an odd vibration, then it's worth investigating.

Re: Yet Another Donut Question 2013 Patrol (Version 2)
With no one on the bike the donut-to-yoke angles are a bit out of line. Try it with someone sitting on the bike.
Also, if that is a low mileage (kilometerage?) Ural, maybe the donut has never worn in before it began to age and get less flexible.
If the bike is really high mileage then maybe the donut was replaced by a previous owner with one that is substandard?
And last but not least, you might just need to ride the bike more, and loosen up, or 'wear in' the yoke holes in the rubber.

Re: Yet Another Donut Question 2013 Patrol (Version 2)
It looks like there isn't enough gap. I think the circle clip needs to be moved on the shaft to allow more of a gap between the shaft and the donut. The prongs are all the way in and the bar the prongs are attached to is smashed up against the donut.

I appreciate the response. It's got 11,800km so mid mileage?tx2sturgis wrote: ↑Thu Jun 08, 2023 8:50 pmWith no one on the bike the donut-to-yoke angles are a bit out of line. Try it with someone sitting on the bike.

Putting someone on the bike and trying it is a good idea.

Re: Yet Another Donut Question 2013 Patrol (Version 2)
Welp, I found a crack in the donut going from the yoke hole to the center. I started to change it out, but I'm stuck on the swing arm bolt on the right side. It's got the 19mm bolt with the tab lock washer (I think that's the name.) For the life of me, I can't flatten the tab enough to get the socket. Every time I think I have the room, the socket slips and I'm getting close to stripping the head. It's the last bolt I need to remove to access the donut which is incredibly frustrating. If anyone has any tips or tricks I'd greatly appreciate it.

Can you grind the end of the socket to remove any taper/chamfer? That might allow deeper purchase.
How are you flattening the washer?
Best,
Jeff

I might be able to grind the socket, I'll take a better look in the morning. I was considering grinding the tab down and replacing it but with my luck, it probably wouldn't end well.jeffsaline wrote: ↑Sat Jun 10, 2023 12:51 amCan you grind the end of the socket to remove any taper/chamfer? I've tried flattening the washer with pliers and a screw driver to move the tab. I'm not the most mechanically inclined person you'll meet so I'm sure I'm missing an easy solution. The tab on the washer seems pretty short leaving me with very little to grab on to.

Re: Yet Another Donut Question 2013 Patrol (Version 2)
My technique with the locking tabs is to first get the tab away from the bolt head by using a hammer and metal chisel to get between the two and bend the tab back a bit.I've tried flattening the washer with pliers and a screw driver to move the tab. Once the tab is slightly away from the bolt head, I use a hammer and drift or punch to flatten it again the bike frame.
No other tools are involved with the process and tab reinstallation works the same way with the same tools.

And if the bolt is already a bit compromised, can you fit a six point socket instead of twelve?

It's amazing what the right set of tools can do! I bought a bunch set, flattened the tab, the bolt came out no problem with a breaker bar.Tomcatfixer wrote: ↑Sat Jun 10, 2023 6:26 amMy technique with the locking tabs is to first get the tab away from the bolt head by using a hammer and metal chisel to get between the two and bend the tab back a bit.I've tried flattening the washer with pliers and a screw driver to move the tab. Hopefully my last couple questions...
1) Fluid spilled out of the final drive overnight when I had it set on the floor... is that gear oil? Where would I top it off?
2) I noticed a fuel line in the back right of the gas tank, down the frame by the swing arm, and I can't seem to figure out where it's supposed to attach to below. I saw a fuel line that comes down and crosses over to both carbs, so I'm really confused on this one.
Sorry for the dumb questions. I'm learning as I go on this.

That’s an over flow from the tank filler neck. It isn’t connected to anything on the bottom side. If you look in the filler neck you can easily see the hole providing drainage.
