I've always had to pull the motor, not enough room in there to work for me.

The slotted screws always give me a headache, even with an impact driver, Dremel a bigger slot, etc.
Now what I do is put a dab of weld on the center of the screw, drop a 3/4" nut on, weld the nut to screw.
The heat breaks it loose, the nut makes it easy-peasy to turn.
I can get all the screws out quicker this way than with any other method.

Also, when removing the screws, just get them all to break loose but leave them in.
Then back them all out a little at a time.
If you remove them all without breaking them loose, all the spring pressure is on the last few and they are much harder to pull.

When replacing the clutch, use the new Allen head screws, so next time just heating them will break them free.

So I learned alot on this journey, and you reminded me of one of the things I learned. Early clutch screws, like on my '05, use the slotted head and M8x1 thread. Socket head screws for these dont exist. Ural changed the thread to M8×1.5 and kept the slotted head, these you can easily upgrade to the later socket head screws.

Well I got the valves done, one intake and one exhaust had no clearance. I set them all to .004 inch. Next I reset the timing on the type V, that was straightforward. I noticed yesterday I had trouble getting an idle without the enrichners out, today after the lashing I realized it was only the inboard carb. I pulled it down and cleaned it quick once, no luck, so did it again in the ultrasonic. It wasn't until I was blowing things out at the end with the compressor that I found the problem, a load of $#!+ in the main emulsion tube. When I rebuilt them last month, I didnt separate the main jet from the tube. That's what happens when you watch a Harley guy do a CVK32 on Youtube I guess. She's dialed in perfect now, nice smooth idle and starts on the first kick when hot. Now I just gotta mount the license plate.

If you strip a screw(s) don’t worry too much about it. Simply use a Dremel and cut the thrust plate #4 around the screw (new costs approx $30 - $40). Saves a lot of time and effort.

use vice grips to remove the screw(s).
