Cycle Trader find - 1968 Izh with Sidecar

Not mine.

Never heard of Izh. Anyone know anything about them? This dealer has had this bike since Dec 2017 according to the date on the YouTube video of it running. Someone might be able to snatch it up at a reasonable price, but I have no idea what that price would be. They are asking $7,995.

That's pretty cool, but I would guess it only has a top speed of about 45 mph. The old Ural 650 would be fast by comparison. Only good as an around town rig to go to work or to market.
This is my step ladder. I never got to know my real ladder.

Very modernistic in a "Mad Men" sort of way.
Having no clue what real value is, Blue Moon is a highly reputable sales and service center for classic and vintage BMW's that also dabbles in oddball rare motorcycles too. I bought a few hard to find vintage parts from them when I owned a r60/2. From basic service to full restorations.
They have been featured on the Pickers a couple times buying WW2 sidecar rigs and memorabilia. I thought they were a Ural service center at one time too?

I love the color. Place the Saturn looking logo gives it that cool space look. Bet the missing windshield for the sidecar would be hard to find.

Izh (ИЖ) is the Izhevsk Manufacturing Complex, which, among other things, began motorcycle production in 1928. This continued until 1940, when the war dictated a total focus on arms production. The Izh plant is better known for its production of small arms, which includes the post war manufacturing of the AK-47. Production of the Izh 350 two-stroke single-cylinder began in 1947. From the early 1960’s, the plant produced 350cc single, two-stroke machines under the name PLANETA and 350cc twins under the name JUPITER. Izhevsk was the biggest volume motorcycle producer in the USSR, the one-millionth motorcycle being made in 1969, the two millionth in 1965, three million in 1972 and four million by the 1980’s. The factory also produced cars and vans from 1966 onwards, and changed its name from the Izhevsk Machine Building Plant to the Izmash Industrial Association in 1974. The factory continues in production to this day as the Kalshnikov Concern, but motorcycle manufacture ended in 2008. Nice styling and I love that sidecar entry. It would make it so much easier for us bigger fellows.

If you've ever watched Charlie Boorman & Ewan McGregor - Long Way Round the camera man has to buy a local bike in Mongolia when his BMW GS blows the main computer. He rides a Planet 5 while they ship the other bike off for repairs.

I've sat on that bike... Bluemoon is my local Ural dealer, as seen on American Pickers (Zundapp episode). Used to be my BMW dealer, back in the day... His rather nice collection is in there. It alone is worth the stop. Now for a history lesson. They were a CMSI Ural dealer, one of the original or very early ones. Most of us know how that ended (if not, well we're not supposed to get political here), then he just worked on Urals for a while, then got pissy about it and only worked on ones he sold. When IMWA got rolling, became a full time dealer again. A few years ago, he got out of the new motorcycle business, but had a change of heart and kept Ural and RE. RE deserted him and all he sells new is Urals. Why? He's really a Harley guy in a BMW world, so of course he likes Urals. Closest thing you can get to the BMWs he really loves - old airheads. Plus as he said it when talking the difference between BMW and Ural customers, Ural customers don't get all pi$$ed off when they break, they kinda expect it...and Ural has never had a park the bike recall...ouch...

What is with these Eastern European sidecars? They look like something from an amusement park back in the '50s.
