WTB off road rig

Post by chorvis » Thu Feb 13, 2020 3:03 pm

Hello, new on here. Been interested in urals for a while and I'm finally in a spot where I could buy one. Looking for a carburated 2wd, running preferably. Want a bike I can ride year round and take camping. Have experience with old jap bikes and enjoy wrenching. Been trying to find something close but no luck yet. Let me know what you got! :)

Not mine, don't know the owner.

In Denver. Not much else within 500 radius (at least not on Craigslist)

Nicely set up. 831km on the clock; 516 miles... it's been a garage queen from the look of it.

Oof, not nice on the ol wallet. That's partially why i'm looking for a carburated model (plus I like simple). Thinking more in the 7-10k range. And since that's a 2015 the warranty would be expired, correct? Which makes me think that any low mileage problems haven't been fixed. Pretty bike though.

Hold out a while. Your price range is not unreasonable at all for something 2wd and late model. You'll easily get a '11+ for that.
Probably the youngest guy in the room.

No problems with my powdercoat, and my 2014 GU coughs a bit, not bad, I just live with it.
EFI is easier than carbs, JMO.

Here is a 2014 on east coast for $10K-Asking, probably sell for less. viewtopic.php?f=4&t=56251

Whatever, patience and you can find something for your $7-$10K budget,

YMMV

It looks like you’ve got competition for youngest guy in the room status

I’m not opposed to fuel injection but my carb rigs are stone simple to work on and I’ve had zero problems with the Keihins on any of them.
If I where to buy a 2014-2018 rig it would need to be a dirt cheap deal, I don’t need the extra aggravation and complication of a fuel injection and electrical system that seems to be troublesome from day one and is already obsolete. From my point of view, Windmill updating the FI on his brand new motorcycle confirms my opinion.
I’d either buy the best carburetor rig I could find, or hold out for a 2019+

Says it is in Conde, South Dakota which is in the northeast part of the state. It's about 20 miles southeast of Aberdeen on 37.

I've a 2011 GU With 46,000 km I'm thinking of selling. Just had it's engine worked on with new main bearings, pistons, clutch. I'm thinking of going to a 2020 cT. So the GU will have to go. PM me if you have an interest.
