Oh that’s easily obvious. He wants near-new, perfect condition for $3,000 or less, delivered on a silver platter laid at his feet.
Oh yes, I think "he" knows what "he" want, and that's what "he" is looking for. Obituary "he" is not looking forward to get a restoration project. But I am sure "he" can afford paying more than $3,000. I am sure he can afford a 2020 model as well, but he is looking for a clean, fresh carb bike. Perhaps, "hes" post clearly stated "if you have one"... so your price point discussion is worthless at this point and it makes me allergic to you :sarcasm:

3 different people stopped and tried to help you and you shot each down for details that you never stated.

I’ll tell you the same thing I tell everybody like you.

“Cut the crap and say what you mean and mean what you say!”

You will get much better luck, assistance, and appreciation for your straightforward manner.

EXAMPLE:

WTB a very clean, unmolested, not rusted, prefer low mileage less than XX,XXX miles, carburetor Ural CT or Retro.

Looking in the $ X,XXX -$ X,XXX price range and within XXX miles from the Los Angeles metroplex.

SERIOUS BUYER - Please have some good quality high resolution photos you can email to evaluate before coming to see in person.

"I am looking for a clean, low mileage Retro in Southern California, Must have current CA registration. "
I already explained it to you. You do read?

3. People. Gave. You. Information. Which. You. Shot. Down.

Whatever Mr.

You win brother.

I give up. I tried humor to help you but you don’t see yourself at all.

The bottom line was that you are INFINITELY more likely to find what you are looking for, and just as more likely to get the assistance of people on this or any forum for that matter, IF you simply and clearly state DETAILS of what you are looking for, instead of writing nice helpful people, long posts about why that one or this one or that one over there that they tried to share with you, was unacceptable. If they knew you didn’t want mileage, rust, rough condition, and in a certain price range and a certain distance (Hence the EXAMPLE you mock) then they wouldn’t have had you waste their time writing you about something they would have known, you were not interested in.

It’s kind of rude what you did, in my mind, but I didn’t think you were aware you were doing it. Hey, but maybe I just see if differently. I feel that being clear about specifics, cuts to the chase and makes things easier, clearer, and the results better.

It also demonstrates respect to the unknown people that you are asking for help from. It gives them the courtesy of knowing enough accurate details to not waste their time telling you about something, you will not want at all.

In your case, no 650cc, no rust, no high mileage, no out of state but also, you don’t want to drive long distances to see junk, hence you are looking for good photos to review, etc.

YMMV.

Knock yourself out. Whatever you like buddy. I’m done.

Sorry I offended you. Wasn’t intended.

I do not remember asking for any assistance or help. Had I? I don't know where you came from but I have been on this forum from 2007. I was on original Ural Tech Board before... and I had a Ural during CSMI time...

I stated in my post:
"I am looking for a clean, low mileage Retro in Southern California, Must have current CA registration. "

Is it not clear to understand what a "clean and low mileage" means?
Do you have idea where "Southern California" is located?
Is it hard to understand what I meant by "Must have current CA registration."?
And I stated if you have one. So, do you have a Retro for sale?

Isn't it obvious that Retro models were around since 2003 or so 'till 2018?

1. Thanks to Lew for suggesting >> www.searchtempest.com and pointing to 1999 Tourist for sale for $4800. And I said that that bike was for sale for less than $3000. I would have bought it if I wanted from the original owner and not from this flipper. But I did not see myself renting a U-Haul and driving there and back 280 or so miles for 1999. It was not worth either driving there and back to check it first and then going there to pick it up and driving back...

And then

2. "Post by 4REICH » Fri Nov 29, 2019 3:16 pm

Look 750 valve covers
https://sacramento.craigslist.org/mcd/d ... 49509.html"

And I replied it is for sale for many months an it has SALVAGE title.

Who tried to help me and who I "shot down"? Have I asked for help?

Now, I don't know why you had to get in and make this comment:

"Oh that’s easily obvious. He wants near-new, perfect condition for $3,000 or less, delivered on a silver platter laid at his feet."
And then commenting that I am cheap, etc.

I am broad open to years... "I am looking for a clean, low mileage Retro in Southern California, Must have current CA registration."
"So, if you have one sitting in your garage, barn or storage let me know.
Keihin carbs to Keihin EFI will do (I know there is no Keihin EFI Retros :o )."

I am not discussing price point here. It is upon seller and buyer, it is upon year and condition. And that's what I want "aesthetically clean". After all you have the bike, I have money. I am not making a wish and not writing a letter to Santa, to include Year, model, mileage, color, etc.

So, let's not be a demagogue.

If/when I ask for your expertise, and that might happen rather soon than later I will welcome or welcommen you to shine in, capisce? :D

I totally agree with both of you. I got one for project yesterday and was delivered today. Brand new 2007 Gear Up (NOS) with 32 kilometers on odo :)
Very nice and friendly guy to deal with local (50 miles away.) Went there, met him yesterday, bought it. Went there today and we trailer it today home. Let the tear down begin... He had gas in the tank for 12 years, so I will be cleaning/replacing gas tank, fuel lines, carbs, etc. That locked gas tank cap was something to play with for about 20 minutes until was able to free and screw out of the tank. Rust in tank :D

Thank you. I haven't found the one I want, but at least I have found a project to keep me busy. Tank is rusted. I see if I can clean and use POR-15, or something. I remember shaking '99 Deco Classic tank full of bolts and nuts, and some chemicals. Now it smells gas in our garage :D

Fuel Tank Cleaning

I use oxacilic acid for cleaning fuel tanks. I learned about it on a KLR forum. It is used as a deck brightner and available at the hardware store. It won't hurt paint if you don't leave it on there dry. Look in the deck care products section and read the ingredients of the products. You'll know you have the correct product when you see oxacilic acid and probably nothing else. I mix it at about one part acid to three parts water. In 2017 I helped a local shop clean a fuel system on a bike with 16 miles on it. It had been stored with fuel in it for 11 years. It took 3 days to get the tank really clean with a couple of applications of pressure washer inside to help the process. The paint looked like new (which it was) when we were done.

Best,
