Wharton State Forest Fire

Post by stagewex » Fri Jul 21, 2017 9:58 am

This is a familiar place to a lot of us. Where the Jersey Devil Hunts take place.
I was heading there tomorrow (Sat) to do some 2-wheel trail riding with a buddy. Looks like that's not going to happen.

That's how the pine nuts split open and grow new trees. They need 1500 degrees or something to pop open. Been burning and growing for thousands of years.
...or something to that effect.

That's why the mob buries bodies in the pine barrens. Guaranteed to eventually burn up all the evidence. :P

It's a big place, ride in another area of the park, or hit Brendan Byrne or Forked River Mountain area, or any of a number of areas around Lucielle's Luncheonette. If you need some guidance PM or give me a call.

I was just thinking about breakfast at Lucille's, no kidding.
We're just going to wait a week or two. I'm sure they appreciate recreation riders not coming to the area at least for a bit.
We were going to park in the big lot by Alison Ranger Station and explore the abandoned train line/tracks.
Soon I guess. But I'll definitely contact you when that is going to happen.

How was that event at NY Motorsports Park last weekend?

Hey Wex,
Like I said, it's a big place, we have fires down here all the time, a 1,000 acre fire is less than 1/10th of 1% of the total Pinelands preserve, it must have been a slow President Trump day for the press to even bother with this fire. Life is short, get out and ride.
As far as the AHRMA meet/races at the New Jersey Motorsports Park goes, nice event, I'll be going back next year, maybe even with my own rig! I can tell you more about it the next time I see you.
If you still want to come down and ride this weekend let me know, I can steer you clear of the active fire zone.

Thanks for the offer Jay. Just started to change-out the u-joint on the sidecar wheel, an un-finished project from changing all of them and the donut from a few days ago. The fire at least gave me the "no excuses" to put this off any further.

Well, we're sure had our share this summer. All the unusual rain we got this winter filled up the reservoirs, but it also generated huge amount of now dry underbrush. We have so many fires during the season that they name them.

The "Alamo FIre" was within ten miles of our house for over a week; it's 100% contained, but was replaced by an another fire further up the coast.
This one hit 30,000 acres.
