Post by yatesfly » Sun Feb 27, 2011 9:35 am

Hello can someone tell me where the directions are to get to the crap rally I cant find the thread? Me and my wife are going to be in nc then to visit our daughter and family and we are thinking of trailering the mt-16 and would like to stop by the rally to meet everyone and visit. We will probaly stay in a motel some where close to the rally. We will be coming to the aera on I-40. Thanks and sorry for the trouble. Dennis Yates

Here's a link to the campsite:

Let me know if you need more info -- one way or another, we'll get you there!

Dennis -

Unfortunately there aren't many motels right close to Vista Point. If you are coming in/going out on I-40 there are lots of hotels at various price ranges at exits 274, 276, and 278 depending on which way you are approaching. Zoom on Dwight's map up to I-40 and you'll see them where Highway 751, 55, and Fayetteville Road cross I-40. Anywhere along there is about 20-30 minutes or so from the campground.

actually when we get there we may go to charlotte first then come up. We are in charlotte now and for another week at least and I thought I might make a recon run up there sometime in the middle of the week. apex shows a couple motels are they not close to the camp. Was hoping to find something that was a 2 lane road from motel to campground. We dont normally do interstate with the mt-16. Anyway thanks for all the information I have something to go on now. I also have a friend in wilksboro area that is interested in the russian rigs I think he is currently into vespas but may bring him along maybe he will get the bug. thanks again Dennis Yates

Check for a Bed and Breakfast in the town of Pittsboro. Only about 10 miles from the campground.

Pittsboro is indeed the closest town to Vista Point, but Google doesn't show any hotels there. There may be a b&b, though. The "back way" from Charlotte is up Hwy 49 to Asheboro, then 64 across to Pittsboro and to Jordan Lake. It is a nice ride, a mix of 2 lane and 4 lane divided. Apex is maybe a 20-30 minute drive from the campground, but it is out of the way if you're on I-40 and in the other direction if you're coming from Charlotte.

Yates: I have an extra four man tent if you want to stay at the campgrounds. I can bring it up with me if you want. This time of year will be good sleeping weather. Will save you $50-60 bucks on a hotel.
