Chicagoland Toys for Tots Parade is Sunday, Dec 5th!

Post by chicagorandy » Mon Nov 22, 2010 12:47 pm

Hard to believe another year has come and gone.

Anyone planning on attending, weather permitting? Last year I admit I bailed on the event due to rain and cold, but Santa and Rudolph will be getting installed on my bike again this weekend to get ready. I'll take the cold and even light snow just fine, but super cold and super wet ain't my idea of a fun Sunday - lol

I am still considering doing it. STMike from Plainfiled was considering it last email exchange we had.

Looks like the 3-5 inches of snow coming to us tomorrow will have ended, leaving partly cloudy skies and about 20F for Sunday's ride. My daughter opted out as an elf rding in the sleigh so it will just be goofy me along with an unknown number of Harley riders.

Deck them Halls and here come Alvin and the Chipmunks singing.

Snowmobile suit & gloves with glove liners? Check
Extra jacket & insulated pants? Check
Insulated winter boots and two pair of socks? Check
Long underwear, flannel shirt and heavy jeans? Check
Thin belaclava and thick neck warmer? Check
Full Face helmet? Check
Extra gloves? Check
Furry Ushanka hat? Check
Thermoses - 1 for coffee 1 for tea? Check
Toys for the Tots? Check
Camera to prove I was crazy and out there? Check

I think I am just a wake-up away from the ride and rarin' to go. I have checked tire pressures, oil & fuel levels and did a quick runup of the engne in the garage. The sleigh lights & sound system are ready. Battery is fully charged.

The weather looks to be cold with perhaps light flurries...perfect Uralling conditions. Safe riding to all attendees.

A few pics Chicagoland Toys for Tots Parade Today

Post by chicagorandy » Sun Dec 05, 2010 4:13 pm

The weather cooperated. started out cloudy and cold, finished sunny and cold, and a grand time was had by all. My pic for the gosh-darndest vehicle has to go to the Velorex Oskar that was in attendance.

Randy, you must have been in the front pack. I made it there about 9 ish and the ride started about 10 or 15 min's later. I saw 3 other sidecars, all UJM's, but a fun ride. Maybe I'll catch you next time. Mike

There was another fellow there with his wife on a brand spankin' new white Patrol. I made my introductions and immediately forgot their names - lol

Yes, I was in the first group out, maybe 200 feet from the beginning group of parked bikes.....so within the first few hundred cycles anyway.

It was as always gratifying to see all the folks lining the streets and in parked minivans waving at us along the whole route. My Ah-oo-gah horn got a substantial workout. Creates quite the echo under all the viaducts too!
