Future trip to the Mansions in Newport RI.

Post by VWK75S » Mon Oct 18, 2010 12:00 pm

My wife would like to visit the Mansions in RI next summer.
Trying to plan a route from Sebago Lake Maine to Newport for the Ural.
No Interstates want to stay off 95 and 495 and not crazy about Rt1
Thinking about heading west and landing in Worcester MA. :moto: Not sure what to do from there. :?
Hope riders from MA/RI can provide some input. :)
Thanks, John

John, if you stay in Worcester area, just south of Worcester, you can pick up 122 South to 140 South follow until you hit 138 South and that would take you right to Newport. Some fairly good riding there. Let us know when & maybe some of us from the area could meet up & we could stage an invasion of Newport on URALS.

If in the Worchester area, Rt. 146 to 102 south will bring you to Rt. 1 just this side of the bay.
Across the bridge to Newport. A short section of 146 is limited access hwy, but most is secondary road. 102 is all secondary and a nice ride. I've been over to Newport quite a few times on the steed to pick up lobster. A Newport gathering sounds good.

I passed the mansion of Jacky O. many times as our training ships sailed in the waters up there. It is supposed to be very spectacular and I'd say it likely is. I never got the opportunity to go visit though. Have a nice trip and shoot some pics, if you can. Enjoy.
We're not going tell next summer so If you leave now you can meet us there

Jackie's home had the windmill out at the water's edge, I believe.
I don’t own a car, but I went to school in Austin. :)
My wife isn’t given up the sidecar so you’ll have to ride B.

On the South Shore of MA. Middleborough to be exact. I typically take Rte.79 down to some backroads through Fall River & then either 138 or 114 to Newport. Usually make the trip 2 or 3 times a year, only about 2 hours using the leisurely route. :D Always have a great time there.

Hey Neighbor.........
Guess there are a couple of us around here.
I'm out of Carver and ride with Bill Trek out of Plympton.
Welcome to the neighborhood.

Newport is indeed a nice run.
We have a lot of good secondaries in our neighborhood.
My commute is 20 miles of Route 58 into Rockland.

..........and don't forget Country Whip on 105 in Acushnet.

Would also be looking for an affordable place to stay within a 1 hour drive of the mansions (RI, MA or CT). :moto:
Road side motel or campground (my wife will camp as long as they have clean facilities and hot showers). :decision:
Thanks, John
