11/26 Turkey Leftovers aka Black Saturday NJ Pines

Post by BinDerSmokDat » Tue Oct 18, 2022 10:58 am

It's that time of year again :boogie:

Where
Not Yasgur's farm, Not Old McDonald's farm, but JayBird's farm!
Use 1550 W Bay Ave Barnegat Township, New Jersey for GPS directions.
Jay has room for plenty of bikes as well as trailers for anyone who is towing.

When
11/26/22 Get there for 9-ish so we can leave by 10:00am
Ride starts at Jay's farm.
The goal is to get back by sundown.
We almost always make it, with time to spare.

What
A day ride through Forked River Mountain, Penn, Bass River and Byrne areas and points in-between.
Lunch is your turkey leftovers, snacks and drinks you bring with you on the trail.
Bring food and drinks! It can get chilly at times and a good meal will help you stay warm.

Riding
A Ural/Dnepr is preferred but we've had two wheelers along before.
All vehicles must be street legal. If your brother in-law wants to tag along on a dual sport bike that's OK; he cannot bring his quad.
Our main activity is trail riding. This is great Uraling territory, flat and sandy, no rocks and some water crossings.
If you get stuck there will be enough of us around to push/pull you out.
1wd or 2wd will be fine and a willingness to push a stuck bike would be nice.
Knobby or 307 pusher helps, but not required. We've had a Retro with a street tire do the ride before.

This is a great opportunity for newer owners to get their feet wet (pun intended) off-roading. This area is very Ural friendly.
Trails are just wide enough to make it seem adventurous. The sand has just enough slip to make it fun and enough traction to get going (most of the time).
There's nothing too steep or scary off camber. If that sounds boring just pick up the speed a bit or skip the chicken bypasses and try to navigate a deep hole.

This is a rain, snow or shine ride, so dress appropriately.
Wear layers, including a windproof layer.
Nylon windbreakers and jogging pants in your layers will keep you warmer than thicker gear as they stop the wind.
Monkeys should dress for snowmobiling, they are less active than riders and they can get cold in that metal tub.
Warm gloves, wool socks and water proof boots go a long way to keeping riders and monkeys warm.
Spare layers, socks and gloves are a good idea if it is wet/extra cold.

General NJ Park information...

Gas
Gas up BEFORE you get to the farm, we hit the woods at 10am sharp-ish.
We will not be getting gas before heading into the woods.
Google gas that is close for you, if you are coming from the West, the last gas is at the Rt. 70/72 circle.
If you are getting off the Parkway there should be gas near one of your exits.

Please note that Jay's farm is a working farm, so when you arrive, pull up, un-loop the chain on the gate, drive through and then CLOSE THE GATE and loop chain around gate again.
Need to keep out the critters that don't belong...four-legged and two legged.
Follow that sandy driveway and you'll find the gang.
We try to head out by 10am, so get there a little earlier to unload, BS and check out Jay's collection of treasures.

PM JayBird or me if you want to swap cell numbers.
Post here if you have questions.

Hope to see you there!

Note that 1550 W Bay Ave Barnegat Township is the closest address that most GPS will recognize, the farm is actually across the street.
Just pull into the driveway and you will see a big metal gate.
Park, unhook the chain, pull through, close the gate and rehook the chain.

Just so there is no confusion (Less confusion?), the meetup is at Sassafras Hill Farm, 1519 West Bay Ave, Barnegat New Jersey, 08005.
The GPS will put you a few hundred feet before the driveway if coming from the Garden State Parkway exit 67, past the driveway if coming from Route 72. The address is clearly displayed and plenty of signage for the farm at the driveway, my cell number is on the gate.
I can’t stress enough the importance of keeping our gate closed, so please make sure it’s closed and latched.
I look forward to seeing everyone.

We've said it three times.
Anyone who doesn't latch the gate after entering will have to complete the ride wearing the Turkey Mask of Shame.

Just a reminder, to get those bikes ready only two weeks to go!
This ride is usually one of our shorter woods rides and the area is relatively dry, just not as many creeks and water crossings out that way.
Good time for beginners to learn what their bikes can do.

Sadly I'm at a wedding that was supposed to happen Labor Day weekend (who does that?) and now Thanksgiving weekend (who does that?).
If they cancel again and move to Ground Hog Day weekend I'll let ya know.

Did you guys get out for a ride? Dominick and I really wanted to join, but our Saturday plans got hijacked.

Yes, we had a good ride Saturday, 4 rigs, 5 people, great weather, a couple lost parts, no carnage.

If you get time and want to come down and go riding, go ahead and message me, it doesn’t take much to get me to take off work  you don’t need to wait for a special organized ride.

Happy trails,
Jaybird
