Andrey Vinogradov plays the Hurdy-Gurdy

Post by windmill » Sat Feb 15, 2020 8:29 pm

I'm not much into music, but I happened on this Russian musician from Ekaterinburg which is only a couple of hours from Irbit.

I find the music very mesmerizing, and relaxing.

Me too. :)

I was vaguely aware of the instrument, and their use in folk music, but not period music played buy masters.

This guy is amazing.

My son and his in-laws took me to an Irish pub for Sunday breakfast near Brisbane Australia. The band there had a hurdy-gurdy. It was a unique sound and I enjoyed it.
I may not be good, but I'm slow.

Ha .... can't believe it !!! I have his stuff on my spotify playlist and now I see it here !!! Really cool sound, reminds me of the chanter drone of the Uilean pipes. My father worked as a luthier for some time and apparently made a 'gurdy once. He mostly made mandolins and lutes but he always w@*ed lyrical about the sophistication of the Hurdy Gurdy.
