There were about ten of us who formed a "brass choir" and used to stroll around campus at Christmas time playing carols. The second year we did it we were joined by a bunch of the men's glee club member (anyone remember what a glee club was?). I think it turned into a Purdue tradition.

We swtiched over to "Oompah" in Oktober!

I shaved it off when I noticed there was more "mustache" than hairs on the top of my head.

I had 2 of the Ruger SA 357s for Cowboy Action Shooting. I don't remember why I took the photo with Ruger, but there must have been some reason...dunno.

I thought you might be "channeling" Spike Jones, or maybe playing at a cowboy bar! Nice photos of you and vetsurginc.

No. In those days I had to hit the books hard to stay even. Worked the airport line to make some spending money. Oiling and gassing DC-3's. Gate agent had to do the bags. Line shack had crap lights, but enough to study. Had a high school buddy (trumpet) that went with the band - never saw him after first day!

One of my Grand Daughters just returned from a 2 week trip tp Europe with the Iowa Ambassadors of Music. She is only 15 and plays the saxophone. A lot of States are part of the Ambassadors of Music. The Iowa group had almost 300 members between the band and choir members as well as the advisors.

This was from their farewell concert just before they left for Europe. The entire group only had 20 hours of practice over three days together. The student were nominated by their music teachers from all over Iowa.

We may not have it all together,
But, together we have it all.

As a Boy Scout, I was troop Bugler - using a borrowed Bugle. I begged my folks for my own bugle. Where they found a US Army Surplus gold painted PLASTIC bugle - I'll never know. It had a smooth soft tone, & smelled like bad cheese - even after cleaning. I think the plastic was going bad. Sold it soon as I could - because it smelled up my room. I was almost 60 before I found a nice regulation US army BRASS bugle that I could afford. A nice trophy - now that my lip & wind are lacking. A similar outcome to my BAG PIPE mis-adventure.

We've led parallel lives... .. but I still have my USA reg. bugle (but can't make it sing anymore) :(

I was "camp" bugler the summer I took my bugle merit badge; the counselor and I took turns with First Call, Reveille, Assembly, Mess Call, etc. "Tattoo" was my favorite. We also played "The Lord's Prayer" (on trumpet) after Taps. Great times.

How 'bout a bagpipe joke?
Q. What's the difference between the Great Highland and Northumbrian bagpipes?

A. The GHB burns longer [but the Northumbrian burns hotter].
