ECU Snorkle

Woe unto you that bought the first model year of a major remake, perhaps this section can help address any 2014 and later model Ural "imperfections". Here's a special section for folks with the latest rigs to discuss 2014 and later model-related topics such fuel injection, 3-wheel disc brakes, hydraulic steering dampers, spin-on oil filters and other anomalies that don't belong on true Russsian motorcycle ;-P We've gone from using big hammers and greasy wrenches to needing computers and Ouija boards in order to fix our rigs.
Forum rules
Please keep this section specific to issues pertaining to 2014 and later models such as fuel injection, sidecar and rear disc brakes and so forth. Ask general or non-2014 and later specific questions in the main Hammerin' & Wrenchin' section.

ECU Snorkle

Post by Yakatak » Wed Jun 26, 2019 12:39 am

Just stumbled on this YouTube "Gone Uraling" video about a snorkle, available from Ural, which prevents water ingress into the right side ECU of the 2014-2018 Urals. Surprised it hasn't been mentioned here.

From Ural:
“The barometric pressure sensor port located on the ECU cover was designed to be water proof however for riders using their Urals year-round, especially in adverse weather conditions the sensor can potentially leak. PK IMZ will honor installation of the protective snorkel on all 2017-2018 model year Urals under warranty. Dealers are instructed to install the protective snorkels during initial assembly or during a normal service interval for all 2017-2018 models."

"The pressure sensor protection snorkels are also readily available for customers who wish to purchase them. Pressure sensor protection snorkels are sold individually using factory PN: 56313 and can be ordered from any authorized Ural dealership or service center."

Please contact your dealer for inquire about the snorkels.

OK ...I get 40 lashes with a broken brake cable for misspelling snorkel in the search box. If they don't work for 2014-2016, then ???

Why won’t they work? The EFI assembly hasn’t changed between 2014-2018 has it?

To my knowledge, there are two "generations" of ElectroJet throttle bodies on the Urals: the first generation has a rough cast metal finish and the 'ElectroJet' logo molded into the ECU case...

The second generation has a polished metal finish and the ECU case has a recess for a logo sticker, but no molded-in logo.

The two generations use different versions of software (each has their own EPA-compliant and Off-Road version), but, as far as I can tell, the atmospheric pressure sample port is identical on both generations.

I have one old style and one new style ECU. IT looks like the snorkels should work. I think Ural should warranty for all years.

Thanks for posting this. I have two on order from Holopaw. Gene and Kenny had to replace my right side ECU after it quit in a 2hr rainstorm.

Just wondering, why wouldn't covering it with an appropriately sized one of these work?

Looking at this again, in an idle few moments, and watching Harry's video again, it just occurred to me IF there is a structure moulded onto the ECU body, which there is, and not just a little hole to let air in, AND there's a "snorkel" that fits onto it, it occurs to me the thing is made with the projection for fitting the snorkel onto, if so, WHY didn't Urals come with them already fitted??? I mean there wouldn't be the moulding on the back of the TB for it to go onto otherwise, like I said probably just a little hole. :?

Unless I'm missing something

Probably not missing anything. But, it’s a rhetorical exercise. Move along, nothing to see here.
