EFI TBs and ECU discussion

Woe unto you that bought the first model year of a major remake, perhaps this section can help address any 2014 and later model Ural "imperfections". Here's a special section for folks with the latest rigs to discuss 2014 and later model-related topics such fuel injection, 3-wheel disc brakes, hydraulic steering dampers, spin-on oil filters and other anomalies that don't belong on true Russsian motorcycle ;-P We've gone from using big hammers and greasy wrenches to needing computers and Ouija boards in order to fix our rigs.

Please keep this section specific to issues pertaining to 2014 and later models such as fuel injection, sidecar and rear disc brakes and so forth. Ask general or non-2014 and later specific questions in the main Hammerin' & Wrenchin' section.

Are they underestimating us? I get the sense that they don't really care to mess with it unless it become a statistically significant warranty issue. I kind of understand that Harley got into trouble for selling EPA defeat devices and they might be nervous about their "off road" map. https://arstechnica.com/cars/2016/08/ha ... et-tuners/
I also feel that it's rent seeking, but I don't know weather it comes from the dealers, the mothership, or even from EJT.

Hi All,

I can back up Van's opinion that the ECU is not separable from the TB. I had the misfortune to drill one of my balance ports a little to close to the void occupied by the ECU on my 2014. Be warned that the void extends about 1/3 of the way out from the ECU. I was concerned with aluminum shavings entering the ECU cavity so I tried to remove the ECU to clean things up.

'Turns out the black cover is extremely solidly attached and it's not just the clips. Unlike Van I tried hard enough to actually break off a clip and the cover/ECU wouldn't budge. The best I could do was move one corner up a tiny amount... but that was probably just the flex in the plastic.

The good news is that I didn't screw up the throttle body and the bike is still running fine.

cheers,

Just curious if you know the flow rating on the injectors and at what fuel pump pressure do they operate?

Can't find a photo or diagram of the flywheel showing the grooves, and I thought I did see one once. :(

Annoying.

Back in the 80s when i worked at Ford. We would take the fuel pump relay out get our AC gauge hose and freon side can tap and a can of Berkebile 2+2 hook up to the pressure port start the car and bamm! That's how we cleaned Injectors.

I don't really care about the grooves, the hall effect sensor is counting the raised "not groove" portions of the flywheel. We'll call them teeth for now, the extra large groove that Darrell illustrates is a "missing tooth" and it's part of a pattern that the computer uses for crank position sensing. I could really use the pattern for more research into the project I PM'd you on. Of note I have never been able to find a TDC mark on my flywheel. I have to use the Kentucky windage method.

As to injector cleaning, has anyone used the automotive gas cleaner method with positive results? i know the mechanic shops love to sell people the 150 dollar injector clean job, not totally convinced it isn't a rip off tho. im talking the plastic bottle of cleaner by proportion to our size tank, and fallowed up by a spray job inside the throttle body. i know its a half A$% fix, but when done as preventive maintenance might be worth while. :?:
