Guys!

Can you tell me what bulbs are used in the round plastic retro motorcycle for the brake light and licence plate light? I'm replacing my ugly square tractor light with a new round one, on the motorcycle itself.

Thank you,

Matt

Ski at Triquest stocks them. I know they are odd as I ride a Retro.

If I'm not mistaken, they're 18-Watt festoon bulbs, which you can purchase here: https://m.ebay.com/itm/FESTOON-12V18W-T ... mwBanner=1

If you don't like the festoon bulb--like me--NAPA has a universal fit light with a conventional bulb.
The one I have is almost exactly like the factory original except that it lacks the amber sector.

Why not the festoon bulb? Just asking.

I find the festoon socket less secure that a bayonet socket.
Once in a while, a festoon bulb will stop working and a bit of rotation in the socket will fix it.
Never had that happen with bayonet bulbs.
I put it down to a lower pressure connection making it more likely for corrosion to break the circuit.
YMMV.

I haven't had that experience, but I have had 1156 bulbs become loose.

Yes, Chad. All my bulbs are greased.
I will say in defense of festoon bulbs that I have never had one jam in the socket.
A jammed bayonet socket might as well be replaced without further struggle.
Again, grease everything!

I also wanted to mention, that despite thinking I was making everything crystal clear to the person at AF1 Racing in Texas about wanting to get everything I needed in one box to replace my square tractor trailer light with a round retro style light, I am short a lot of items. They did not include any bulbs or wiring and now I see that I am also missing a gasket that goes between the fender of the motorcycle and the tail light.

I was just hoping to be able to pick one up locally rather than having it shipped. I went to two stores on my own, batteries plus bulbs and Advance Auto parts. Both places carried the 12 volt 5 watt bulbs for the licence plate light. Neither place carried the 12 volt 18 watt bulb for the tail light. The closest thing they carried was the 12 volt 10 watt bulbs, so I'll have to order online after all.

I got one of each to make sure I have all the connections right when I'm done and I'll be sure and replace the 10 watt bulb with an 18 watt one before I actually ride.

Link to the 5 watt bulb I bought is here:

THANK YOU GUYS, You are always the best!
