It was really nice to spend some time w you in the Anchorage area and I appreciate your suggestions of things to see and places and go. Did u get all the Hatcher Pass dust out of all your clothes? :)

Definitely, plan on stopping by my place if you decide go outside this winter ~ or anytime. (I learned some new Alaskan terminology while up there. One phrase is like if Butch says he's going "outside" this winter that means he is going to the lower 48.)

Great report Norm! I leave in two weeks to do the CDR (North to South) on my KLR. That'l keep me out of the pool halls for a while; but I'm already thinking about the next great venture. Believe that I may do the TAT on Gobi next year. You might want to consider that.

Ron, the CDR is something that I've read about and would like to do someday. I'd consider taking my KLR 650 on it but I've read that a few sections can get a bit gnarly so I might be better off on my road licensed KTM 520 EXC. I'd be very interested in reading your RR of that trip!

And the Gobi on the TAT sounds very intriguing. You're going to be doing some fun riding!

just re-read your great RR Norm, thanks for doing this.

It's not quite two years since you did your epic ride, now another Orange Patrol, 2011, will undertake the trip....I hope to get to Alaska in first half of May. I'll probably be leaving from either Moab, UT or Seattle, WA....it all depends on my travels in April. :)

Dom, I am sure you will really enjoy the trip! What awesome country to ride through + wonderful people. I want to do the trip again on my Ural but my wife votes for alternate vacations and she gets two votes to my one. :D

I'll look forward to following your RR in May.

Awesome trip, and brings up memories for me. Was stationed in Kodiak by the Coast Guard for two years, 2001,2002, and restored a '59 K-750 while I was there. I was an aircraft sheetmetal repairman, and was able to use the facilities on my off days. Rode that baby back to the states, was quite the adventure. Would like to go again someday, maybe when I retire. Thank you for your pictures.

What about making a one way trip to Alaska next year, selling the Ural there and then flying home? I did that in 1996 on my ride to the Panama Canal and it worked out just fine.

Thanks, sagerat. it was my greatest adventure on 2 or 3 wheels and I wish I can do it again. But, at 74, not sure. Thanks for the condolences. Ride safe.

Howdy Norm. Good to say hello again (REF: JUN 16-17, 2011) I don't know if I told you at the time that I was on an Iron Butt Ride. I am proud to say I was the first of seven to complete the Ultimate Coast to Coast Challenge in 2011. "This is to Certify that in June of 2011, David D. Haun rode a 2007 BMW R1200GS a total of 5,698 grueling miles in 10 days, 11 hours, 56 minutes . . . Key West, Florida . . . Dalton "Highway" . . . Prudhoe Bay, Alaska on the Arctic Ocean where he delivered the ashes of his son, Preston, to his final resting place at the Arctic Ocean."

Hey Dave. I remember very well you and I meeting in AK. (He saw my Ural at a small roadside cabin and whipped a U turn on his BMW and came over to say "hi".) No, you didn't mention you were doing a 5,700 mile ride in 10 days! Wow. Key West to Prudhoe Bay.

Interesting that we both had recently lost our sons. I hope you are doing well.
