2014 Retro

Post by rdkeys » Wed Feb 10, 2021 12:06 am

So, I bought a 2007 Tourist last July. Always had a problem with it randomly stalling or not starting (has to be a electrical issue). Posted about it here. Took it to a shop here in Tampa FL. They couldn't figure it out, even when it happened to them. Decided to take it to the Ural guru's Gene and Ken at Holopaw Ural. It started for them a million times, (HA, go figure, right?!). They can't figure it out and probably think I'm crazy. While there I was looking at Gene's personal 2014 Retro with like 4500 km on it. I think heck, why not try to upgrade? I traded the Tourist (and cash) for the Retro!! I know Gene was sad to let go of his last bike but he knew it was time and I really appreciate that and feel his pain. Night and day difference between the bikes and I'm happy. Might sound silly but I feel it is an honor to have Gene's bike. Thanks you sir. Randy

Gene and I ordered our Retros together. His was prettier but mine fit my un-chromed style better.
You have a great bike there. Congratulations
I may not be good, but I'm slow.

Good point and probably true. I'm sure Gene and Ken will figure it out (OP said it worked for for them). Always something and usually simple.

I see and read some 2014 bashing here (even by 2014 owners) but that Retro of Gene's which I have seen several times on visits to Florida... that's one really nice beautiful rig! You're right, it is an honor I suppose.

Congrats and may you have many Safe, Happy and Healthy years piloting it.

Wow , you're really lucky and yes, it is an honor to have the masters chariot. The Retro is a ride with style.
On a 2014 M70 I made 600 miles all freeway ride in one day (11 hours with rest/fuel stops) from Los Angeles - Las Vegas - Los Angeles and that was after not sitting on any two or three wheels for 8.5 years.

Congratulations and enjoy as much as you can. Happy miles with smiles!

Holy crap! Can't even imagine 600 miles in a day or even highway riding. I did get the Retro up to 75 mph with no problem, so I know it can do highway if need be. The 2007 Tourist topped out at 60, downhill with tail wind. I had Gene put a windshield and trunk rack on it also. Now have to get new LED lights done. Tail lights especially are scary dim. Really think it was a good move to get this bike.
A friend is welding a carrier on back so I can transport my Paramotor on it. My flying friends are going to be so jealous when I show up at the flying field.

This town ain't big enough for two Retros! Well, I think you'd make at least the third. There's 5 Urals within 3 miles of my place.

Great that you got Gene's Retro. I want to see the photo of your Paramotor on the back of your Retro! And where is the flying field and when are you going to carry it there? Want an audience of Urals?

I have not done 600 miles, 450 roughly but due to bad roads that was 16.5 hours of time (included lunch, a malt and gas stops)

Back when I was younger I did over 1000 miles one day on the Nighthawks S. Summer time in Alaska, who needs lights?
