Howdy From Central Arkansas

Post by Rusty Nuts » Mon Feb 17, 2020 9:41 pm

Well after several years of looking I decided to dive in. Did some serious looking starting in the fall, made an offer in December, purchased in January and after al long trip across the country it showed up today. So much fun! like everything I have read, completely unique from anything else. I wish it wasn't raining tomorrow. Looks like the next time I can take it out will be next Monday. I have been reading a lot from this site and have to say thank you for all the information y'all put out. Now to find a fellow rider to meet up with. I have only ever seen one other around and it was about 2 hours from here. There was a report of others but it was only one sighting and haven't been seen since. With the 10 mile trek home I would have to say yes, the UDF is real. So many people looking and hanging out of windows I was amazed.

And now I give you Babe (named about 3 months before purchase)

Pretty bike. Now take it out and get it muddy. :)
I may not be good, but I'm slow.

You actually have a 2019 1/2 Gear Up. Some of the 2020 changes are on your bike such as the new front caliper bracket.

I seen that and was thinking of going till I realized it is the same week as my "mandatory" Guard drill. They know how to ruin all the fun.

Welcome, congratulations, my first Bronco back in 73 was that color and it got the same name. Oddly my wife had a White Shepherd named Babe when I met her.

If I had ordered sooner I could have got that color (and known the code) - its a co favorite to the Terra Cotta and Yellow. Its a really beautiful color. I just can't fall for the base colors.

Do not let the rain deter you.

The fix is: Make sure its oversized to go over your layers.
Bib Rain pants, heavy duty, Helly Hanson, Carheart etc. Fishing class or worker class not that light weight $#!+.

Good rain coat, long in the waist. I got a Carheart as my Helly coats were shot (had two). Get the Carheart Removable rain hood not built in model.
All the rest I looked at had built in to the body hood and its a waster though fine for work.

I did not get the shoes for that but they happen to be Gortex and they work great, otherwise rubber boots per the old Extra Tough type.

Rubber gloves and you can go for a whole day in the rain (I have done so) and be warm and happy.

@rc20 Thanks for the info, I have been taking notes here and there since I joined over a year ago and am adding yours to it. Isn't so much the rain here, but a mix of the idiots on the road and inexperience. Arkansas has no shoulders and rocky ditches. Now it wouldn't be as bad on this bike as my other, but I still don't want to try it out. And yes, if it wasn't this color, the next choice would have been yellow. And it's not to stand out, I just buy what I like and don't care what others think.

You are welcome. I think that is what this is (or should be) all about, sharing as best you can honest information with details to support it (I was a mechanics /technician/engineer for 35 years and I ate, breathed and lived good data!)

My second early Bronco (special order the last year they made them, wish I still had it sigh) was Department of Highways ORANGE.

Many thought it was nuts but I loved it (now if I could have 3 then Blue and Yellow would be the other ones!)

In some ways I am glad I was limited to Terra Cotta option (and had the money to pay for it) . The Blue or Yellow would be like Bask and Robbins and now able to figure out what flavor I wanted. Blue or Yellow would have cost another $500+ or so if I had the color codes and the time so it all worked out as TC is Orange , got it when I wanted it and I love it.

I get the road situation. Up North 50 miles, the road is a mix of newly done and old WWII build, no shoulders in places up there and no place to pull off.
Today's vehicles have good hp to weight so you need to move 55 despite the issues. Even motor homes go up the hills at 55 now. Years back a non 2019 would do fine up there, not now (or with any degree of comfort) and they are not nice, on your butt trying to pass.

Try putting the sidecar windshield down and then ride around (especially at highway speed). It is much better.

Come summer I will try it but don't notice anything unusual from that direction with it back.
