Joining the Family!

Post by Olga » Sat Apr 15, 2017 8:07 pm

I just bought my 1st Ural! :D Yup, proud new owner of Olga, she is a 2011 Patrol, formally owned by Norm 427! I am nervous and excited to be part of this nostalgic group. I know Olga & I will have many adventures together and I'm sure some will cause more grey hairs to form, but I'll just keep adding the blonde streaks and they'll blend right in!

I grew up riding motorcycles and have owned over 9 different motorbikes over my years of riding. I've enjoyed street, dirt and adv bikes but never a sidecar. Of course I've always had a soft spot for them but never owned one in my quiver. So how did Olga come into my life? Well, my dad, who is living with Alzheimers, has been a go getter since he was diagnosed. Instead of giving up his life once diagnosed, he has been ever so involved with his community. He even had a magazine published about him called "Living with Alzheimers". Last fall, I came up with this idea (did I mention I was a dreamer?) to take my dad on a motorcycle sidecar tour around WA state to raise awareness for Alzheimers. We could stop in some of the major cities along our tour, where we would hold Alzheimer Rallies for those recently diagnosed or those currently living with AZ or memory loss. They would be positive events with music and food and time for people to talk and share stories and have resources..........and all that dreaming, has become a reality. This summer, my dad and I are going on tour to #RIDE4ALZHEIMERS. Instead of relaying on Ural, (who was going to sponsor us) I decided to buy Olga. This will give me time to get familiar with her and I can make sure my dad will be comfortable. We will depart Sunday July 4th from Twisp, WA and travel around the state for 10 days hosting 6 different rallies. We would love to have any of you join us on our ride at any time.
I have set up a Gofundme account that has our trip itinerary (http://www.gofundme.com/ride4alzheimers) and also an Instagram account (https://www.instagram.com/ride4alzheimers) that I will be posting updates on until we hit the road. Looking forward to meeting more Ural like minded good souls out there!

Greetings! Good to hear your dad isn't going to give in quietly. My mother ended up with dementia, which she found extremely frustrating.

I was the first owner of "Olga" and now I'm happy that my 2011 rig has as its 3rd owner an amazing and adventurous woman (and very pretty, too). She is an incredible photographer. If she hasn't already posted some pics of "Olga" as yet then I'm sure she will soon.

My wife just bought a Can-Am Spyder since her Harley was getting a bit too heavy for her. I've ridden it about 250 miles since she bought it a few days ago. It is refined, yes, but it doesn't have the soul of a Ural.

I am hoping my little Russian princess is as good to her new owner as she was to me. Happy Uraling, Olga!
