My First Ural - 2012 M70 in San Jose, CA

Post by JayCo » Thu Jan 05, 2017 2:19 am

Okay really excited, got my first Ural on Christmas Eve.

2012 M70 with 1300km on the clock. Showroom condition. Really a work of art, I am in love. I have already put 1000km on it and can't wait to keep on truck'n.

New to all of this, so still very green, gonna be asking a lot of stupid questions, but glad to have a place like this to get advice.

Its a beaut!
Wow! I can't remember that was the length on my Retro exhaust!
Took them off and fitted the top mod mufflers - great improvement!

Now that's a nice ride, both of 'em above. I love the retro look of the M70s. Making my next choice of rig difficult.

Looks a beaut! Love the machine gun mount and military decals. I too am a fan of the Retro/M70 styling... So much so I bought me a Retro Classic this Christmas as well!

Nice. Whenever I walk up to a M70 it always seems like the tires are flat - because it is so low. Who knows, maybe they are flat?

I would take out about 12" or so, just make the exhaust muffler shorter. It has to be a real hassle to get that rear wheel off when you get a flat.... I have no idea if it is possible on that muffler system, but I know that a shorter system makes getting the rear wheel off A LOT easier. JMO

YMMV

Awesome bike! Are you going to be at Ski's on Sunday to meet Hubert? It will probably be pouring rain, but it looks like fun! Hope to meet you there...
Oh, and ask Ski about eliminating the left-rear turn signal. Saw one of his bikes without it, and it really improves the 'retro' look.

Ural ownership is much easier when you have a good dealer nearby. Welcome to the neighborhood

Fellas ---- Thanks so much for the warm welcome.

Yes, been doing some research on the following:

- Short'n the exhaust. I have been chat'n with Ski about that he has giving me a couple of ideas, he is a wealth of knowledge!
- Short'n the signal arm, still debating on what to do there, they do stick out quite a bit not a big fan of that.

Sunday I will be at Ski's Triquest - Rain or shine I will ride in with a big fat smile on my face.

My GU came with a short stalk on the front left turn signal, so I just switched it with the longer stalk on the left rear. Simple 10 minute job! And the longer stalk is right at home on the front, still well inside the handlebars, and now just below the Driving lights I installed.

Good idea... Also saw a bike with retro lights @ Ski's where he eliminated the stalk altogether, and put the left turn signal inside the rear housing. I'm sure others have seen/done the mod., but it was new to me.

Darrell has a video of how to shorten the directional signal arms. All you need to do, is remove them, put the pipe in
a vise and shorten per the video, and reinstall. I did the front and rear on my bike. I was always bumping into
the rear one. One of the dealers sells the pre-shortened pipe nipples.
