Re: 2019 Ural LED Headlight
Here is an unusual one I came up with from Ebay. It was listed as an "off road headlamp reflector" with a magnification lens suspended inside. I put one of the Cobb LEDs with a magnifying lens on its front in - & it is surprisingly bright. I run a BLUE LED pilot that is ON when the engine is (during the day when the main bulb is resting). The two flanking accessory lights have cobb type LED driving lights bulbs fitted - they come on with the High beam.
ALL lights on my 2002 tourist are LEDs. Even use a LED headlight bulb in my sidecar fender running light. I can see just fine at night. & have under $60. in reflector + all the Chinese bulbs purchased on Ebay.
Burned off my eyebrows when photographing it - otherwise VERY PLEASED.

Looks great

I haven’t looked into running LED headlights, do they require a special reflector?
Can you post a link to the one that you’re using?
I’m often doing things on the cheap. I replaced the sealed beams in my rigs with Bosch units that I buy at the motorcycle swap meets, due to how common they are, I would guess that they are Harley Davidson take offs.
They are motorcycle specific and DOT approved. Average asking price on these are $10 US
I’m using Halogen bulbs now, I wonder if an LED bulb would work in this?
Happy trails,
Jaybird

Yes, it would fit your reflector.jaybird wrote: ↑Fri Mar 17, 2023 10:06 amI haven’t looked into running LED headlights, do they require a special reflector?

I have the same Bosch H4 reflector on my Patrol and the Auxbeam NF-S1 fits perfectly, the same as any standard Halogen H4 bulb.
Unlike many aftermarket LED bulbs, the Auxbeam NF-S1 mimics the correct filament and shielding configuration of a halogen bulb so won't compromise the beam patterns. As such it should fit any reflector that accepts a Halogen H4 bulb.
Be aware many LED bulbs, like the one Ural offers, are terrible. They don't maintain the beam patterns so they are too bright up close, throw less light in the distance, and produce excessive glare for oncoming traffic. Many off brand aftermarket reflectors are gimmicky junk, you would be much better off with the ones you have.
Also, the heat sink makes it a tight fit in a Retro headlight housing on older rigs with analog speedometers, and the speedo may need to be pushed up around 3/16" for it to fit but it will work.

For once I might disagree with you, Barry. I've been running the current (3rd) generation Ural LED for over a year in our demo bike. Is it overpriced at $100? It might be. But I think it works well. Witness the low and high beam patterns:windmill wrote: ↑Sat Mar 18, 2023 6:02 amBe aware many LED bulbs, like the one Ural offers, are terrible. I was referring to the original Cyron LED bulb that looks like they no longer have listed. The latest version you linked clearly has the emitters and shielding configured correctly.

Re: 2019 Ural LED Headlight
Roger that. Yeah, the old ones with the rattly cooling fan were pretty amazingly bad. I liked some later Cyron bulbs that I bought through Tucker (aka Tucker Rocky), but at least two suffered early failures, so I've stopped buying those ones.

Re: 2019 Ural LED Headlight
When they lent me the 2019 demo bike, it had the Cyron bulb which was so bad I took it out and put in my spare Auxbeam for the 2 weeks I had it.

Re: 2019 Ural LED Headlight
Hi Jaybird, unfortunately no link - I bought reflectors of off Ebay about 2 years ago. I'm sure you could fit a 3 prong LED headlight into your reflector - BUT in my Non - lighting engineer USER opinion - my "diamond cut" reflector focuses the light better through its CLEAR LENS than would a smooth reflector through textured diffusing lens. The faceted "Diamond Cut" reflector aims all the light from the cobb style LED bulb - spread over the road through the clear lens - SHARP & CLEAR. A textured diffuser lens wastes a lot of light. The driving light/headlight bulbs I have are not the heat sink kind - & do just fine. Just so happens the plastic diamond cut reflectors are not as deep as as the mirrored steel - but the Ural headlight body is not either - so it IS snug. MY headlight ring IS a deeper visored, Chinese "Chng Shin", & IS roomier. The suspended magnifying lens is built into the reflector - & works like those on a number of cars. It seems very bright. Perhaps why it was listed as "off road" - but my new mikuni vm racing 32mm carbs - are listed as off road as well - I'm not worried - no Rule- Nazis in Dixie Free States. Yankee-Land may be a different story.
Hope someone finds this helpful. C.

Here in Washington, it's become a free-for-all which unfortunately has brought the idiots out of the woodwork in large numbers. And there's a good chance those idiots don't have a license, registration, or insurance so they get off scot-free when they cause mayhem. You wouldn't believe the state of some vehicles on the road here, just claim it's your "home" and you're untouchable. I've literally seen an RV going down the road at night with its only light a flashlight on the dash shining out the windshield.
It would be nice to have some rules again.

Dear windmill - NOT ABOUT what any of us little guys tolerate - Its about what Authorities do - like not enforcing Existing LAWS - while making stupid ones the un-elected bureaucrats DO enforce. The FREE STATES I refer to still exhibit good common sense & are still voting for it.
After living in Beautiful New Mexico some years - we came back to Georgia - but the mountains instead of "war zone Atlanta". couldn't pay me to live on the west coast or Washington state.
Nothing to do with LEDs - & sounding a bit POLITICAL & Spank Worthy.
