My first Ural

Post by JSB » Wed Jul 29, 2020 5:34 pm

Just bought this my first Ural: I've been told it's an M-67. The rubber says made in USSR, so pre 1990, but I'm not sure. Maybe early 70's?

Did a bit of engine work on it - replaced carbs, plugs, hoses, seals, took original rubber off. Runs smooth, but still dies occasionally at idle and tops out at pretty crappy 40 mph. I love it, but any advice would be welcome. I'm sure I'll be on here again.

Congrats, it's a labor of love that's for sure...
Does it have a title?? That should tell ya the year...no?? I'm a Ural newbie myself, so I'm not really of any help.
You'll find all kinds of good info on here...read around and it'll help ya figure stuff out.
A whoppin' 40MPH for top speed?? Maybe some more w@*, or that new F11 stuff will help cut resistance...

Good luck

Bike looks very nice! Just in case you haven't visited this information list by Ernie Franke, here "tis...
I believe he makes reference to some older URALs as well as DNEPRs. Lots of helpful info.

The year on titles for older Urals, Dneprs, and CJs are often not accurate. Often they were claimed to be older than they actually were to get around EPA and DOT regulations.

Nice bike! Great condition. Chad should be by to do his magic to spin the picture (open a separate link and it come out right)

I ran into my first Ural years back. Being a cycle guy I talked to the owner for 40 minutes or so. He ran it on back roads and local roads (40 mph speed limit) only due to the get up and go factor.

For my goals, the 2014 on up were mandatory, but given the chance (ala spare money!) an older one would be a hoot.

Both heads are equally hot. I'll swap out the plugs again (they dirty up quickly) and see if that helps. Thanks!

The title says 1972, but I don't think that's accurate, based on the panel configuration. I'll post some more pictures soon, and maybe some sleuths can at least eliminate some options.

With some info, pictures and diagnostic efforts.
We can discuss the issues there.

Nice ride! Go to basics air, fuel and spark. Clean air filter, clear your gas tank screen, petcock and fuel lines, check your compression, new spark plugs (if needed), balance and sync your carbs.

Thanks everyone. At Alex's suggestion I opened a new post at "Low Power Old Model" Some new pics over there also. I'd welcome suggestions on fixing my power issue, year of the bike and anything else.
