New Exhaust System Part 2

Post by Redblock » Mon Jun 10, 2019 1:33 pm

Please see New Exhaust System Part 1 to see how this journey began

I was able to repack the Dime City Cycle Reverse cone mufflers. My original thought was to use the complete Muff pack system packing material, Mesh, Stainless steelwool and then Fiberglass mat. Well that was like trying to put 10 lbs of crap into a 5 lb sack. Just wasn't happening. So we skipped the Fiberglass matting.

I got everything tightened up (please note - I did not paint the pipes yet) rolled the old girl into the driveway and fired her up. The idle is awesome. It has that nice rumble to it and is not too loud. Even revving the throttle is not too bad (an occasional pop or so.) This is an EFI bike 2015 GU.

Then things change completely when you put some load on it while riding. She becomes a lot louder. She starts to backfire a bit more. Did I mention she became a lot LOUDER? The repacking of the mufflers helps out greatly, but do to the nature of them, they just don't have enough baffling and/or back pressure.

That being said, I have not given up on my quest. I think the new pipes nail the look I wanted. The idle tone is awesome. Now I just need to get the right pipe. The new adapters I made are very useful (see Part 1). Now I can use any standard MC muffler that fits a 1 3/4 OD pipe. I don't have to use reducers or anything else. Just slip on and tighten them up.

I hope you all enjoyed my attempt. I am still not done on this quest.

They sound great nice and deep.
If you get a chance a high speed(JOKING) flyby would be nice.

The OffRoad Map I have is from 2016 when my Ural mechanic gave her the first tune up. Have they updated it since then?

I don’t believe so. I like your exhaust, it sounds good. If my memory serves there is a way to adjust back pressure with a washer welded to a bolt so you can rotate the washer inside the pipe to change the restriction. I believe the technique is called a “lollipop”.

Burt - I have to check that out. There is also a way to put a drop-in baffle on the intake of the muffler. Good to know. Glad you like the sound

I just ordered one of these mufflers for my forthcoming 2 into one exhaust project. I have to replace the roof on my house and garage first so it might be a little while . Looking forward to more progress with your project.

Chopfather,

I will be posting part three tonight. The Drop In baffle did the trick. Now I just have to fab up some mounting brackets and paint it.
