Sidecar Fuse Panel

Post by MonkeysUncle » Sun May 12, 2019 2:32 pm

Wanted to add a USB port and change out the european cigar lighter to something I could use to power my GPS. Couldn't fit all in the factory supplied fuse panel in my 2013 GearUp. Early last week I cut some parts then got busy but yesterday found the time to try it for fit. Sprayed some black paint and waited til this morning to assemble. Used info from my son's post (DylanW) and posts by Snuggly Ranger & bonwit to find the parts, so thanks to them.
I used a relay so no worries about battery drain when parked, spotlight included. Couldn't find my 20A inline fuse but it'll turn up eventually and I'll add it to the mess. When I do that I'll shorten up the spotlight leads, maybe they thought someone might want to mount it 4 feet from the bike.
The new box is similar in height and a little wider than the original. It protrudes into the car about 1-1/2" more but sitting in the car it's not a noticeable difference.

+1 - good work

I read on-line that Powerlet is out of business, though the sockets & plugs are available as DIN/Hella plugs.

Perfect timing on my end. I've just put in some new front bumper mounted foglights. I bought this relay/wiring harness with switch. Can I connect it to my sidecar fuse box for juice instead of running lines to the battery? I can handle the mechanical end of it, but wiring is my soft spot.

I'd think okay. LED lights, short distance, using a relay. What gauge wire came with the switch?

And you've got the most important addon installed..... gremlin bell!! That looks like a good spot. I need to get one on Ural in a hurry :)

Have 2 on my other bike.

The bell came from my mother in laws collection. After she passed away in 2016 we were cleaning out her stuff and setting it up for an estate sale, dad's in the Soldiers Home with dementia. I came across this bell and I thought it would be perfect to go on the sidecar. $6 ATV mount plate from HF, $18 lights from A-zon and the wire harness was $9. The wire gauge is 16AWG.
