Sidecar paint job with bedliner

Post by glacoste » Fri May 03, 2019 1:35 pm

Got my rusty crusty sidecar back today from being sandblasted and painted. Some parts suffered pitting, but the bed liner paint covered it up nicely.

Nice going that looks good! That did have a little rust in the before shot. The northeast rust belt can be unforgiving.

WOW!! Given the amount of rust I accumulated this season, I foresee a similar project in my future.

What's the ballpark price range for a job like that?

They used a product called Raptor. Not as thick as some of the others. Having my fenders all done up with them as well.

Cool; that's the DIY kit that people have used to line sidecars with. I'd love to do my fenders also, but I really want to do it myself (which sounds plausible).

If anybody knows of any fellow Ural folks that are doing this within driving distance to Indianapolis, please send me a PM!

I am having my Chang tub (Ural sidecar frame) repaired...lots of rust through down the sides of the trunk lid, trunk floor rust through, and nose sam rust through. Shop is doing a great job. I have decided to do my tub in trunk bed liner, inside and out. I have an acquaintance that runs the paint shop at a local dealership. He has offered to spray the liner for me when they are spraying a pickup bed. I can't wait.

Had to chime in about painting a truck with bedliner: 4 years ago, when I lived in Florida, A large pizza size bubble appeared in the paint on my 02 Nissan Frontier trucks Roof. Since it was on top I repainted with a well matched rattle can, but that didn't last 6 months & it was rusting - OH NO...
Ended up sanding & using a good rust encapsulater on the rust - Then took it to RHINO LINER - & HAD THEM PAINT THE ENTIRE CAB ROOF. since its a dark blue truck it wasn't noticeable (I had worried it would look like a Vinyl roof on a pimpmobile) Then last winter I got a super deal on a new paint job in the same color, & the paint went on the rhino lined roof fine, Now that 17 year old truck still looks great - no more trouble with the roof paint or rust.
