Scissor jack is good. Simple and relatively light.

Scissors jack, held to the luggage rack with two stainless steel hose clamps. Doesn't take up much room.

A steel 1-ton scissor jack works for me. Think mines a Torin(sp?) brand from Amazon. Ideally I love to find a 1 ton hyd bottle jack but finding a "small" bottle (less than 2 ton car jack) is tough. If you have the money, on ebay you'll find used aluminum "Porsche" 1 ton scissor jacks. Lighter but ya gotta be a kool-aide drinking true believer.

I picked up a Torin as well from Amazon. Haven't broken it in yet. :)

All showboating and ego stroking aside; I carry a small unidentified scissor jack, modified with a 3/4" nut welded to the screw so that you can use a wrench or ratchet to operate it, no need to carry around a bulky handle. It also has a small piece of angle iron welded to the top to make it grab under frame better. I can't seem to find a photo on my computer but I'll try to take one later and post it up.
gobium does have a trick with a 2"x4" that seems to work pretty well, maybe he'll share that, if he's not to busy feeding his ego.

By the way, Welcome aboard!

Happy trails,
Jaybird

2 ton bottle jack, for now. I have to get over to the pull-a-part yard and find a small scissor jack that suits me. I love walking around that place.

S854, I gotta ask, what's the collapsed height of that jack?

Van has a video where he uses a shaped block of wood. Simple and has worked for me. On old Patrol, I cut it to fit under the seat. On current Gear-Up, it's cut to fit in the toolbox under the sidecar.

It fits the tire pump clamp just dandy (gotta extend it a bit so the base sits on the floor of the trunk)...

7 - 8 inches collapsed... the base is about 4” square...

I bought a small scissor jack from a local auto wrecking yard for $10.00. Zip tied it out of the way between hack & bike. Fortunately NEVER have used it!!!
