Quick detach windshield mount.

Post by Burt1713 » Tue Apr 23, 2019 5:56 pm

A while back I posted about the QD windshield mount Sean and I had made that I was testing on my bike. The original mount solved what I saw as shortcomings in the factory mount, time required to install and remove the windshield, all of the small parts to keep track of, requiring the headlight be readjusted after installation/removal, and difficulty in adding aftermarket handlebars. The original design solved all of these issues, however it was far from perfect. The original design required modification to the fairing, was difficult/expensive to manufacture, had a vibration issue, and since Ural redesigned the front end in 2014 the two different models of mounts were required adding to the complexity and expense of manufacturing. This is why the original mount was never produced. I just installed the MarkII version on my bike today, I am still going to test it for a month, but I am very confident that it will be a success. After the test period I will be making these to sell. I will post more information as it becomes available.

If you are making a list... Please put me on it. QD mount would be a game changer.

I will advise you when they are available for purchase, I do want to test the design first. The original design seemed good until it wore in, then the vibration problem showed up. I don’t want to sell a subpar product.

I did a test ride on a “decommissioned” section of highway that parallels the current highway. The fairing mounts did better than my back. The vibration/shaking is non existent. I need to alter the design of one of the brackets to correct excessive lean back of the windshield and once that correction is made I will start making an assembly fixture.

The good news is I corrected the lean back issue and started building the assembly fixture. The bad news is I'm in the hospital with a suspected bleeding ulcer, so there will be a delay before I can work on the mounts again.
