IMO best ural tube money can buy (ATTN!)

Post by gobium » Fri Aug 04, 2017 7:44 pm

I run these Michelin tubes last year when i did solo x country trip. I was very impressed, they are 4mm thick lil heavy but very safe, especially trying to prevent blow out on front during hi speed , most blow outs are from ripped valve stem.
Normally they are 40 bucks but i got these for $20 free shipping, i bought 10
Made in USA

when I was into bmw back in the day ( had a fleet .. r60/2 solo , r60/2 with ural chair , r69s solo , r75/5 toaster tank solo , r75/5 toaster with jupiter chair , r90/6 solo ) I ran continentals on the solos and avon on the sidecar rigs . used michelin tubes on all as they were the only tubes that held air pressure for long periods of time.

Do they make them for 18"? How much do they leak down? My factory tubes lose about 5-7 psi a week.

Here's the 18" ones for Retro Classic/M70 weirdos like me.

Thanks, Van.

For disabled guys like me, I plan to save up for a full set, AND use Ride-on tire sealant, along with real metal valvestem caps.

Add some long wearing Avons, and tire worry is off the table. Does anybody sell solid motorcycle tires!?

These tubes hold air weeks or months (for me)
They are popular for Avd rider group, it is 4 mm thick , heavy, but perfect for sidecar

I put one of these Michelin UHD tubes in my pusher this past spring when I installed the Heidenau K28 19 on my back wheel. Super impressed with the ruggedness and quality of the Michelin- beyond any other tube I have ever handled. A bit more deliberate effort to install than a usual tube, just 'cause of its bulk. I've read other places that thick tubes are [according to someone, I don't know if I buy this] more prone to heat accumulation when run at sustained high speeds- but I don't do interstate hauls on my Ural and "high speed" measured by Ural standards is "leisurely pace" compared to many motorcycles.

Anybody have trouble changing tubes when using the heavy duty version? I've used them before on adventure bikes, and hated them because it made roadside tire repair more difficult. They were also about 2x as large as a regular tube (when folded up), so they took up more space as a spare. I'm not planning on carrying a spare wheel (too much weight), so maybe my needs are different than average.
Sidecar newby trying to get started...

Attention
Michelin UHD considers a MALE tube (it got 2 nuts)
Please install the 2 valve stem nuts correctly

I put these in the new tires on my R100/7 and I think I put them in the Ural, too. Somebody, and it may have been here, said that these are intended for moto-x bikes and not street bikes. Something about the higher temps seen by street bike tires. I never really gave it much thought after that. Might be worth asking Michelin about. Maybe I'll do that.
