Temporary sidecar windshield
I don't have a regular monkey so I don't want a permanent sidecar windshield but I rigged something up today that can be added to my nose luggage rack with zip ties that seems to do the trick. It cost me $24.00 for an 18X36 piece of plexiglas that I can make a second one from if this one gets too banged up.

Re: Temporary sidecar windshield
Is it DOT approved?
Just make sure those zip ties are redundant and UV resistant if you leave them on all the time.

Re: Temporary sidecar windshield
It probably won't be mounted for more than a day or two every now and then so I'm not concerned about that but thanks for the heads up.Just make sure those zip ties are redundant and UV resistant if you leave them on all the time.
That's why I shared the idea, help yourself.I also don't want it permanent,
stealing this idea!
I just borrowed a monkey from the neighbourhood to try it out and she approved, I don't care for it much as I get more wind on my right side but for occasional use I think it will be fine.

Re: Temporary sidecar windshield
When I finally get a nose rack I was planning on welding some tubes to the side and cutting my sc-windsheild's frame a bit to slide in the tubes and fixed with pin. Didn't like having the windshield on permanently either.

Just another Idea to add to this;
Your local parts house will have car door edge molding,
it's cheap, just slide it over the ruff cut edge of the plexiglass,
gives a nice clean appearance

Dan,
Great idea. Don't worry about the naysayers.
How about a photo of one of the women is your avatar riding in your sidecar behind the new windshield?

I wasn't nay-saying,, just sharing my $.02 (just need to clear incase this was referring to me,,,,I'm a little paranoid sometimes)
Re: Temporary sidecar windshield
I thought the edges of your windshield looked pretty smooth. But if you can see saw marks, a single cut file will clean them up quickly and they will look great. You can finish off with a little scratch remover for crystal clear edges.
I cannot see in the photo, but where you have the right angle cut out to fit the rack, if you did not put a radius in the corner, that area will be a stress riser that can crack. When the wind bends it back, that's when it will crack. If this is Lexan and not plexiglass, than forget what I said about cracking.
Do they not still offer the folding windshield that disappears under the tonneau cover when folded down?

I know, right, I'm working on it now that the roads have been salted.Your rig looks too clean though.
I'm pretty sure they do but I bet it cost more that $24.00.Do they not still offer the folding windshield that disappears under the tonneau cover when folded down?
And dressed like that too, sorry, won't happen, I have no idea who they are, I just met them on the beach. How about a photo of one of the women is your avatar riding in your sidecar behind the new windshield?
Sounds like a good idea, I just ran a palm sander over the edge quickly. But if you can see saw marks, a single cut file will clean them up quickly and they will look great.
I just sliced a piece of vacuum line to put on the bottom edge to cushion the power coat, never thought of covering the rest.our local parts house will have car door edge molding,
it's cheap, just slide it over the ruff cut edge of the plexiglass,
gives a nice clean appearance
Thanks for the feedback.
