You can make a ground anchor point if you have a shovel. Find a solid piece of limb, or cut one if you have a saw. Dig a trench with the top angled away from your rig, to bury the limb anchor. Make a slot in the center for the rope, so it doesn't pull the limb up out of the hole. Winch away.

I just got my puller. Was shown this thread on FB. Good info and mods. I need to test it out. Have to look at replacing the hinge pin on the lever. Would definitely save room. Does it need the extra pulley? I can see it would increase leverage by a huge amount. Just wondering if you could go without the pulley if you needed the full length of the rope?

Good idea sir. Feeding a long length of rope through the unit can be a struggle. Temporarily removing that top cover helps a bunch.

The idea is to make the puller smaller without using tools. Hal's idea done.

Replace the center bolt with a (self-made) pin and spring pin. Removing the handle from the "body" of the puller makes the package shorter and easier to put somewhere.

FYI, removing the handle and stacking the two pieces together just right, it’ll fit inside a 4”x22” piece of pvc pipe. Now I just have to figure out where to mount it in the bike.

Will a 22” pipe fit in the trunk? I still haven’t taken the time to look at pulling and replacing the lever hinge pin.

Depends on where you are, but the spare wheel/tire makes a good buried anchor. Common with the 4x4 crowd in the desert SE.

No, however the disassembled Maasdam will. I’m trying to reserve trunk space for luggage and other things I’d like to lock up.

Rope fits in tube. After unravel new rope, it will never be as small as it was. The 2-pc rope puller handle can fit in trunk or floor of tub.
BTW, my "Rope Tube" is fastened to the little rack on sidecar fender. The tube does not touch the tub, so no rubbing, only independent movement. A screw lid would not fit, so I used an ordinary plumbers' temporary plug for a lid. Simple, no tools required to open/close it.

My version:

YMMV

You can increase the mechanical advantage a lot more by using higher quality pulleys with bearings in them, impact is higher as you use more pulleys. Google Z strap system.

"z strap system" produces no relevant sites, as far as I can tell.

Thanks, Joe.
Why is it so hard for everyone to just post a simple hyperlink?

Reminds me on another forum recently I got "shot down" for trying to show what a hyperlink is. Apparently it was too "geeky". :?

So I said, you gotta learn something about this stuff if you want to reliably post links and photos. Image
