Ural Compatible 4.00 x 19 Tire Matrix - Prices and Suppliers

Post by Norm » Tue Mar 19, 2013 6:55 am

My experience of pusher tyre distances is:
3,500km from the original Russian, between 2,500 & 4,000km from Mitas H01, 6,000 to 7,000km from Duro 308s and 7,500 to 9,000km from Heidenau K37s. I ride lot of constant highway ( Hay plains and the like) I reckon that constant 90kmh + speeds generate extra wear.

I would pay twice as much for a tire that lasts twice as long.

With concern to tread life longevity, a great deal has to do with your local roads. Different asphalt, terrain, topography has a lot to do with it(the asphalt in Maine  , is very different from the asphalt in Washington st.). Around Maine, if I got 5-6,000 KM out of a Duro 308 pusher, I would say I did well. But I've done long distance in other states, and gone 9-10 KM on pusher. (mostly straight roads :( )

Rig set up and driving style also factor in.

Ambient temps and road conditions would probably add another variable to the wear factor... hot tires on a hot day driving on hot asphalt would wear more rapidly than they would on my usual winter commute...

...those up in the great North-Wet would probably extend their tire wear also... wet roads are slickery...

Agreed!

To continue this, I would also add ask the local Ural riders in your area. The folks from your area, who ride the same roads, with similar conditions are probably going to have similar results. Most of the folks I ride with get similar wear as I do(yes, there are still exceptions).

I have been running one on the front for 2 Winters now and since the Uralshina knobbies are getting hard to find and expensive I will start running them on the rears next Winter also. Load Index 59, 536 lbs. I run Metzler ME880 Marathons all around in the Summer and I am sold on them after 3 Summers.

I have tried a lot of different tires on my GS rig and any tire that fits the front of my GS fits the Ural. I guess if they handle the GS rig at 85 mph they should be OK on the Ural.

Don't forget the Avons.
95% of all Urals built in the last ten years are still on the road....The other 5% made it home.

Interesting. I haven't heard of anyone running Metzlers before - are you running the 100-90x19 or the 110-90x19?

I ran Avon SMs and loved them, but at just over twice the price of a Mitas H02 I couldn't justify them. The Avons were about $200, the Mitas I can get for $95.

For Australian riders I can offer Uralshina 4.20 x 19 C-97 (Knobby) $55 each and Uralshina 4.00 x 19 C-90 (Universal tread) $50 each. Price includes inner tube. Freight from Greenbank 4124. Approximate dimensions for freight 72cm x 72 cm x 10 cm, 8kg per tyre. Packaging $5.00 single tyre, $10 for two or three. (Most freight forwarders won't take unwrapped tyres). I generally use SmartSend but you may get better prices from another company. Generally the best freight price is for three tyres.

I run the 110, bias ply. I started running one on the front of the GS rig because I was getting 12,000 + miles out of it so I decided to try it on the Ural and I really liked them in he Summer. As long as I don't get in the mud or deep sand they actually do pretty good off road in the Summer with the 2 wheel drive. I carry a knobby on the spare just in case but I have not had to use it yet. I think they would be ideal for a Tourist.

Great post, fortunately I go through tires quite often so I get to try a lot of them.
