Tractor to Solo HD Seat : help needed

Post by Westy64 » Tue Nov 22, 2022 5:43 pm

Hi guys,
I plan to replace the tractor seat by a HD Police seat on my 2010 Tourist.
Easy peasy thanks to the wonderful tutorial, but unfortunately I live in Europe (France). :D
Most of the ebay sellers are in the USA, and ebay international shipping policy is now very simple : buyer pays upfront first class service and tax and service on the tax and tax on the service, etc...
Example: a seat with price $135, plus shipment $115 plus taxes $57.
This is not my plan, I'd like the parcel to be shipped like I used to do a few years ago, ie with USPS.
Then if the french custom want to tax me they will do it (or not).

So, what do you think is the size and weight of a HD Road King seat, so that I can estimate the shipment cost in the USPS pricing files ?
Would it fit in this box ?
https://store.usps.com/store/product/sh ... _LARGE_FRB

Thanks a lot for your help.
Regards
Jean

I do not believe it would fit. The solo police seat is 15 inches wide, and its length is longer than that, though I do not recall the exact measurement. You would need a bigger box. I looked for the length and haven't found it yet.

I converted my tractor seat on my 2017 CT to accept this seat.

It is very close in size to the tractor seat, but more comfortable. I did have to weld an adapter up for the front seat mount, and rear coil springs. The springs are 4 inch (101.6mm) the seat levels out under my weight.

That's a nice seat Burt. Somewhere between the full HD saddle and the Ural Tractor.

Thank you, I am very happy with it. The improved seat and coil springs really helped the comfort level. Now when I can get new shocks on the bike…….

Thank you guys.
Nice seat, Burt, and nice armrests.
Did you test it on long distance (several hours) ?
Did you post other pictures of your front stands ?

I’ve ridden 8 hour days, with food and gas stops. There is a bracket that comes with the seat, and I welded a piece of flat steel on each side to fit the Ural hinge post. I welded another piece of steel perpendicular to the bracket to bolt the coil springs to. There are two studs on the seat pan for springs, but they didn’t fit with my design so I cut them off.

Thank you, I made the armrests myself. I do woodwork for a living.
