I think the keyword is "look", not being historically correct to the didactic observer is very different than a suggestive theme for the casual observer.
I still don't get it. Cosplaying stolen valor is sad. The current Ural looks no more military than a Suzuki Samurai. Really, WTF is the "military" look to it. It's pure civilian. Does a sidecar suddenly make it military? I guess paint that old Suzuki Samurai OD, slap a white star on the side, and rock it!

A modern Ural is a heck of a lot closer to an M72, or even a BMW R71, than a modern Jeep is to it's Bantam ancestor. And Chrysler-Jeep-Dodge-Fiat-Stellantis gets plenty of mileage flouting the Jeep's military linage.
Past afflictions include limey cars and motorbikes, an R60/2, R65ls, & a Citroen.
Now a couple of bicycles, a worn out '87 K75s,
and a rusty 2012 GU bought new
Dual K&N cones on homemade PVC intake, 40/137.5
Raceway needles, Modtop pipes, E starter delete
$29 VW Hydraulic steering dampener

"Stolen valor"..... for liking military style things and getting enjoyment from them?
As a veteran myself, I see nothing sad or duplicitous about it, find that concept totally ludicrous, and being critical of it is very pedantic.

The 4X4 that never goes off road, wearing a team jersey when one never played on one, a hobby farm, living history reenactors, playing online poker. So what? I don't get why some are threatened by people enjoying such things.

I concur regarding the cosplay vibe of the pseudo-military Urals, realizing that that may not be a popular opinion around here. And going by the distribution of color schemes at my local dealership they are betting on the cosplay factor too. I was not in for long, but for long enough to take it seriously and I don't like unearned ranks and insignia. For those who are former military and want a green OPFOR style bike then go for it, but I don't get it.

Wow ! Amazing how a simple question about where people like to mount an extra gas/tool box can go.

Hang around here long enough Motorman and you’ll see just how easily distracted we are as a group...

Yikes, some of the comments in this thread took a condescending turn. OP, don't apologize to anyone, it's your rig...do whatever you want to it!

Not a problem, friend. Just looking for some comments from the experts who have experience with mounting equipment on their sidecar rigs.
Thanks for your thoughts.
