2020 Gear-up up-grades and side-grades

Post by grinmaul » Mon Jan 18, 2021 11:47 am

I can't leave well enough alone so i have ordered some things for my Ural.
The 2win shock group buy got me wanting to replace the stock shocks, but since i am not in the US it was going to be 1700CDN plus shipping, duties and taxes, 2Kish maybe?

So went to the shock-factory website and ordered from there, ordered Wed, shipped Fri, and at my work before 9am monday, amazing since they shipped from France. 1500CDN all in.

Also ordered the GPR 2-1 exhaust, so i won't install the shocks until then at least, i also want to see what i can get for ceramic coating the exhaust black locally.

Raceway front rack with spotlight cutout, and the bullet parking brake gizmo they have.

And last thing i did not need at all but really want for some unexplainable reason is the Raceway forward reverse shifter, i have the reverse one now, but was always a little disappointed i did not go for the other one.

Attaching some photos, new shock, shop i get to work in and ural on the 4 post lift that will make a lot of things easier.

Got a few bucks in cars in that shop. Interestingly broad range of makes and models, too. I'd be constantly in trouble for unauthorized test drives. Imagine I'd not last a week.

the 2005 Ford GT is about the only thing off limits for a drive, and if i asked i probably could go around the block. i tend not to drive them very far anyways, just takes one not paying attention driver to ruin my day/month/year:)

I just work here btw, none of them are mine. but they all do belong to my boss. and there is another building being added on to this one right now, there is probably double the amount you see in storage waiting on the new space.

What if anything did you notice from new shocks and did the powder coating on exhaust work out?

The shocks came in a 9am this morning, i will not be able to test drive for about 3 months, once the salt is off the road. the exhaust is not here yet.

Quite the collection. Any particular story to it, or just someone with enough money to build and fill a dream garage?

FYI: I know you're in Canada but the US flag should be displayed with the stars on the upper left even when hanging vertically.

I will correct the flag as soon as i can get a ladder in that part of the garage.

No real story, just a guy who made some smart investments later in life and buys cars he wanted when he was young. also buys newer cars now.

He prefers the English stuff in a Drop Head flavour, Lots of Jaguars, some Jensons, a Morris Minor, MG TF, etc, some American muscle and classics.

If it is strange and not very know, he will want it.

I never heard of the Tartaglia brothers, but being a Jersey boy and being involved with the antiques crowd for so long, the first guy I think of is Frank Malatesta.

I'll have to ask around about those Tartaglia's

And last thing i did not need at all but really want for some unexplainable reason is the Raceway forward reverse shifter, i have the reverse one now, but was always a little disappointed i did not go for the other one.
On my GearUp I prefer the 2 wheel drive/reverse shifter as I do a lot of off road riding, it should come with that shifter from the factory.
My Retro on the other hand, I have the forward/reverse hand shifter, I prefer that for street riding and also feel that they should come that way from the factory. I use it almost 100% of the time for upshifts, and probably 50-75% for downshifts, depending on traffic. The timing and the shift feel very natural.
Both very nicely made units.

Thanks, I feel better:)

I do plan some off road, but it will likely be a once a month kinda thing, there is nothing close to where i live, and riding an hour and a half to off road for the day makes for a long ride back when your sore and tired:)

I don't have anywhere close i could keep a trailer or i would do that for off roading.
