Two Urals, same intersection, same time

Post by sagerat » Fri May 08, 2020 9:35 pm

All four legs are stopped at Third Street/Empire at north end of Bend. I’m at front of outside lane, south leg. I look over and at front of left turn lane on east leg is a Forest Fog GU.

I wave, he and his monkey wave, and then I’m off toward Sisters.

What are the odds?

I'd say way better than the odds here in western PA. In my life I've seen exactly two Urals, and both were mine . . . :D

I once found one in.a parking lot next to mine. In 8 years I've seen maybe 3 in the wild.

I try to keep salty snacks and cooled malt beverages on hand just in case I spot another nut, er uralista on the road. A little over a year riding almost every day and I've yet to see a sidecar much less a ural. Yet where there is life there is hope

in Northwet with Marine by Choice we once met a third Ural at the gas station 1986,2007,2013.... and with Garry the guardian angels wanted it to quit his string of bad luck. In Yukon to go from one intersection to the next one is a good way to not compete, but stick together. 850km and no other bikes, only a few pickups.
He made it home with his in Dawson city epoxied final drive 8000km to Ontario, for next day not to make it to the supermarket.

Moral of the story. Don't stress your guardian angel too much.

(Meeting other rigs in CR. in the first 25 years in this country i met only 3 other rigs, until someone opened a can of peas, shortly after Hubert Kriegel passed by here.)

Keith, the boys must be ready for to teach them riding. I propose to teach them on the Ural... Thomas made well that way. Not until 8000-10.000km when he made his first solo ride on his own shiny Royal Enfield...90km = 3 hours...at 75km muffler protector vibrated off. 86km at red traffic light "Pling"
- What was that? It was the first nut that said good bye.
What better trainer for kids then a Ural?

Only 1 sighting of Ural in "Wild", guy dressed (goggled up) up (down, backwards?) like someone from early WWII or late WWI.
MetalCarver was just down the hill until he move to Sequim....

Other than that, groups at SOUR and Moab Get-togethers, plus the THAG crew at WY Eclipse.

YMMV

I've only one Ural sighting in the [local] wilds to date. This would have been ~10 years ago, at least. 'Twas the factory beige camouflage livery. Were it not for that episode, and had I not purchased my Gear Up in 2018, Urals would still be vaporware.

With the foregoing in mind, it was a complete mind f**k to see so many Urals in one place at the Gettysburg Blue Gray Rally.

I can understand this part of the country where the nearest dealer is a 7-8 hour (by car) ride from me. but surprised, thought there would be several sightings along the east and west coast.

Just got back from a ride and had an odd UDF. Dude got all excited telling me that he has seen two Urals in the past three days. I tell him I think more people are trying them out since the newer ones are (I'm told) more civilized. As it turns out he just saw me twice about 100 miles apart.

The Seattle area is kind of a sidecar hot spot. IMWA/Ural, DMC sidecars, Liberty sidecars, and before they went out of business Ramco/Dnepr are all headquartered here.
Hardly a week goes buy I don't see a rig on the road, or parked.
