Ural? Dnepr? CJ750? on the cover of Southern Biker

Post by zookster » Mon Dec 02, 2019 10:05 pm

There is a sidecar outfit on the cover of the December issue of Southern Biker magazine. Can anyone identify the model? I am not knowledgeable enough to be able to tell. It appears that it might have a flathead engine, so maybe a CJ750?

I asked the publisher (friend of mine) but he wasn't sure. The image was provided by a photographer in Poland.

How can you say that and be sure? The photo is from Poland, it is more likely that it is a Ural or a Dnepr.
Can you backup your statement? What is it about that photo that makes you say it is a CJ?

Who said I was sure. :P
People respond to posts all the time when they are not sure or even ever owned they type of moto in question.

It is hard to say. They sidecar step looked more like a CJ, but a bit obscured by the text. It probably is a M72 based unit. The exhaust pipes look like flathead pipes. Has a retard control and hand are reversed (so M72 or CJ). The leg shields are later model Dnepr/KMZ. The tires are Ukrainian style. I don't remember the lump on the sidecar frame near the front mount.
Here is my old M72 frame.

Look at the steering damper knob, sure looks triangular to me...

Not CJ. Front forks and round fenders scream Dnepr.

It appears to be an M-72M with the engine and forks from a K-750M donor bike.

I say this because it has an M-72 sidecar light and headlight.
It has an IMZ/Ural M-72M fender and fork shrouds.
It has wider M-72 (all models except KMZ/Dnepr M-72N) inverted lever bars than the first generation K-750 (and KMZ/Dnepr M-72N) which had shorter bars due to the "power steering" leading-link forks.
The later K-750M had those "chromed" telescopic lowers and wide bars, but it's not possible to fit inverted levers to the wide bars.

The engine has the M-72M highly ribbed and vented SV head end pieces (M-72 and first generation K-750's were different) and smaller distributor cover than the M-72.
