Gear Up or Patrol?

Post by OleanderSalad » Mon Nov 25, 2019 3:08 pm

I'm taking delivery of this beauty tomorrow. All the paperwork is done, but the (non-Ural) dealership I'm getting it from is closed until tomorrow.

Odd thing on the purchase order, the model says "Ptrl." I was almost sure it was a Gear Up. I think the people at the dealership just put that on the purchase order because they didn't know. ... or not.

This is the Ural I'm getting tomorrow. I don't care all that much because, (correct me if I'm wrong) a Gear Up is just a Patrol with some "upped gear", and this one looks like it has all the goodies I was interested in (racks, can, etc.)

Just thought maybe you guys could help me while away the long 19 hours and 53 minutes until I get to see for myself. :)

Can anyone say if this is a Gear Up or a Patrol with extras?

Would it matter one way or the other?

Thanks in advance.

I think the difference is basically paint and accessories. Enjoy you're new ride!

Thanks, yeah. I'm not sure what to call that color either. I freaking love it though! Def has a modern military vibe going.

When the guy first told me he had one, he said it was a 2017, but then changed it to 2016, so now I'm not exactly sure about that either. :D

Well, the insurance card that State Farm sent me after I provided my VIN shows my 2014 Gear Up as a "Patrol", so there you are . . .

Same-Same mechanically.
Different paint. Gear-Up used to be almost exclusively some sort of Camo. Came with a shovel, search light and machine gun mount.

Patrol didn’t.

Now just different accessories & paint. But you can add any dress-up toys you think you need to a Patrol.

Didn’t the gear ups come with the tool box gas tank and the patrols came with the standard smooth one?

Or did that change depending on the year?

My 08 patrol has the smooth non tool box tank, spare wheel, rear rack. But no extra fuel can or shovel.

Yes, you are correct, tool box tank.
I added one to my Patrol as a matter-of-fact.
Wish I could find that key, ha.

Also, Patrols typically came with chrome trim (rims, front fender loop, shocks, sidecar bumper, side/rear turn signal housings) and the stepped bench seat.

Yep, it's a Gear-Up..it has all the typical Gear-Up stuff:

Spotlight, tractor seat, tank toolbox, satin (or sorta flat) paint, no sidecar windshield, etc...

My Ural Solo sT insurance policy refers to the Ural Solo as the Ural Wolf. So, you might want to make sure they enter the right model on all the registration paperwork...otherwise the mis-nomer will be perpetual.

Mine has all that stuff too, but I wasn’t sure if that was patrol standard or options.
