Need a Goldwing sidecar

Post by sixbennetts » Tue Nov 05, 2019 8:00 pm

Well, by now you probably read about the attempted theft our our beloved 07 Ural Retro. If not, here's the thread:

https://www.sovietsteeds.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=55773

With the help of Gobium and a local mechanic, we're still trying to figure out what's wrong. I'm thinking bent crank or conrod. We'll see.

Well, a good friend of ours from the oncology lab here in town heard about it and went on a crusade to find us a replacement motorcycle. Becky is a little sweetheart. She and Barb hit it off during my chemo last year. I guess her and her girlfriends were able to find an airline pilot in AZ who was selling one of many of his motorcycles. She said he wasn't asking much for it, and was willing to just donate it! Needless to say, I'm floored. Always wanted a wing, knew I'd never afford one. I'm talking with Haulbikes to bring it up.

Because of past battle-damage, I ride sidecar only. Can't handle a 2 wheeler. So, I'm looking for a sidecar for the Wing.

Condition/paint is unimportant, as I can tidy it up. I'd put the ural sidecar on the wing, but I think people would boo and throw things at it!!

What'cha got, fellas?

Saw a couple of Goldwings in CT a few weeks ago. I believe they were hannigan rigs.

I recommend DMC for all my sidecar needs, service, etc. I had them install an Expedition Sidecar on my BMW R1200GS for a trip to Alaska with my friend who broke his leg. Call Jay at DMC (866) 638-1793) or go to their website (http://www.dmcsidecars.com/) for info. They might have a used one, but I don't know. He might be able to assist you when you explain your situation. Good luck!!!

I *think Becky said she was talking to Jay from dmc. He said he's got one for a couple grand on the back shelf, so that's an option. Thanks.

Here's a Hannigan Astro GT for $4900 in NJ

He's not kiddin about the price, I saw the sales receipt for one like this from dmc. Painted and installed was over $13,000 and that was 5 yrs ago. Only problem with one this big is it could really use an ez steer conversion too but pretty sure dmc can help with that too :)

Champion makes a nice sidecar and those come up on used market occasionally. Its not as big or expensive as a Hannigan.

I would NEVER split up our Ural. It's magic as it is. It was a gift from a dieing vet to another dieing vet, (me), and it saved my life. I did think about it, though.

Got the PM. True that, 4 actually, but 3 are Urals and the 4th is family... at the moment, know of nothing for sale! Goldwing needs a pretty beefy sidecar. WIll poke around, but this is the time of year most folks are working on theirs, selling time is spring... I am avoiding social media until folks learn how to not just repeat what they are told and actually interact civilly again - may be a while (this forum not withstanding as that is, well not put up with here)... let me see what is out there...

Thanks, brother. I just breathed a sigh of relief knowing you're on the case. Damaged fiberglass can be repaired, and painted. Rust can be scraped.

A heavy sidecar with a brake is the best Idea (Like Ural or Stieb TR500) the spaceship looks & price tag on others put me off.
I'm sure you will find out with research - HOW TO MOUNT A HACK ON A G.W. Looks to me like lots of bodywork involved - or just removing all the exterior fairings - which would make maintenance much easier.. If I were doing it I'd get rid of all the swoopy plastic & get the tug more basic to match a Ural sidecar (which are not terribly expensive) as separate, & good used.
best wishes for your good fortune.
