Auxbeam NF-S1 led & Hella E4 lamp beam shots

Post by windmill » Sun Mar 18, 2018 1:58 am

I tried getting some decent beam shots, and of course it started to rain.....
Anyway, a decent representation of how well they work together.

Unquestionably an improvement over the stock lamp and halogen bulb, without the additional glare for oncoming traffic like some poorly designed HID, and led bulbs do.

That is a big improvement! I'm bound for cataract surgery my eye doctor said to wait a few more years before having it done.I don't really venture out that much after dark partly because the oncoming cars headlamps have a blinding halo effect. I met one of my former customers out on the road the other day.He had lens implants done a couple of months ago. At first I struggled to recognize him without his glasses. He said" it was like being reborn". I don't know about you but I don't remember being born the first time.I do remember my first harrowing dismount at speed. It was more like near death than being reborn and very exhilarating. Anyhow better lights equals reduced pucker factor and thanks for taking the time to post the photographs of Bambi down that long dark road.

Looks good Barry. First LED set up I've seen with that good of results.

I'm really picky about lights, most of what I've seen is dreadful. Glare, hot spots, artifacts, dark or excessively bright near field, short range, some so inconsistent the beam pattern looks like a kaleidoscope, which includes some popular units people rave about.

I think I'm gonna have to do this to my gear up. I had been considering a day maker headlight but this looks like it works great.

I have the exact same setup now, Barry, since I replaced my Cyron LED bulb with the Auxbeam, and I experienced the exact same results as you. Tomorrow morning's commute to work will be my first ride with the new bulb and I'm quite eager to see the difference on the road, vice the sneak-peek I had in my back yard.

Chad, I also put a 5 3/4 Hella E4 with Auxbeam in my spotlight, and wired it so the low is controlled by the OE spotlight bar switch. The high is wired to the to the main hi/low switch so when I hit the high beam they really light up the road.

The Mobile Chernobyl doesn't have a spotlight, but I DID install LED strip lighting under the upper ednes of the trunk opening...

...and the footwell, if that counts for additional LED illumination. :D
2018-03-19 04.53.06.jpg
The '99 project bike DOES (or, should I say, WILL) have a spotlight, but I decided to try out this multi-element all-in one unit:
2018-03-19 04.54.03.jpg
2018-03-19 04.54.35.jpg
It might not throw light as far as the Auxbeam, in true SPOTlight fashion, but perhaps it'll give a good, wide, general illumination. It was inexpensive, so we'll see...

I like the idea that your spotlight changes intensity with your headlight beam selection. To control the spotlight on my project bike, I ordered a left switch cluster from China, that has an additional switch molded-in.

Chad, that type of light with the led emitters facing outward is a flood light that glares horribly for oncoming traffic. A coworker has a small light bar like that, and quickly gave up using it on the street for that reason, but does like it off road where he doesn't need to see far.

Cool, I know a couple of people who were disappointed by them as many sellers misrepresent them as "headlights" when they're not.
