That's horrible. I hope his leg wasn't totally crushed so that it needed to be amputated. WTF was up with that HHR driver? I don't see how this could have been avoided other than if the HHR driver wouldn't have run the stop sign. The Ural and Acura driver are innocent victims of the idiot behind the wheel of the Homo Hot Rod.

Nothing the rider could have done. Sometimes we're just at the mercy of idiots. Very unnerving video.

Hope whoever that was driving the Ural will make a recovery. It looks from the video the initial impact didn't hit his leg, just the front and engine cylinder. As the bike pivoted and was pushed into the ditch did the cars' front bumper squish his leg.

My theory:
The driver of the dark car was looking at, and then focusing on, the strange looking machine (Ural). The dark car driver notices that the Ural is not going, so the dark car driver decided to go instead, all the while starring in wonder at the funny machine (Ural). You can see as the white vehicle coming from the right stands on the horn and emergency brakes (tire squealing), the driver of the dark car hits the accelerator in a failed attempt to get out of the intersection.

Basically, the dark car river was distracted by the Ural and focused on it rather than the car coming from the right, again my theory.

Had a similar event happen at a 3way intersection with one stop sign.
We were at the stop sign waiting to make a right turn. :moto:
Truck waiting to make a left onto our road. I saw the guy talking on his cell phone. :x He pulled out in front of a car going straight.
My wife and I were showered with car parts.
I think the guy driving the truck thought it was a 3way stop?

North end of my street. 4-way stop with good sight lines is considered optional on a daily basis. You get to know most of the neighborhood regulars by sight. Three or four wrecks a year. One death - motorcycle vs landscaper pickup - two years ago. Scary. Scary. Scary. Unfortunately its the best way out of my neighborhood.

I live on the dead end street side of an intersection. For some reason, my street doesn't have stop signs. The other street has much heavier traffic and stop signs. Many people don't even let off the accelerator when they blow through the sign. Needless to say, I act like there is a yield sign there for me.
I may not be good, but I'm slow.

Since we are sharing. Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, 1980. Intersection in the middle of the desert. You can see intersecting traffic coming for well over a mile on either side of the intersection. not a building in sight. A bus full of Pakistani laborers is headed down one leg. A Mercedes tank truck (used for water and are all over the Kingdom) is coming down the intersecting leg. Both were flying, as that is the norm. Both had well over a minute to see the other vehicle approaching. Neither slowed down. The truck hit the bus just about dead center. It killed almost all the workers on the bus. It pretty much turned the inside of the bus to mush.

I tend to think I'm pretty cautious when I ride/drive and tend to slow when approaching any intersection regardless of my right-of-way status. But sitting still like that poor SOB in the vid pretty much dooms you when something like that happens. Kinda makes you want to sit at a light or stop sign with the bike in gear and the clutch in, in case you have to make a hasty avoidance move.
