Whew ~ glad you made it safely Chad .

Once, many years ago I had a hot date with a hot (red haired) woman and I hopped on my trusty SWB BMW R75/5 and blasted recklessly through commuter traffic to her apartment, when I arrived I set my foot down and the right handlebar snapped off in my hand

Talk about pucker ~

You got home in safely manner and that what important. The rest is continuation of your project. Riser material is probably weak or very much hardened. I wonder if quality US made Harley risers would hold on that much of force in turns.

The Little Red Bear has been weeping oil from various orifices, so I decided to go ahead and start opening up the engine to re-seal the timing chest, apply sealant to the pushrod tube seals, red Loctite the cylinder studs, and seal the breather elbow threads.

My progress was interrupted by a 'phone call from a local fellow that I paid to fix the dent in the tub I bought from Terry Crawford for my '99 project bike (which is the reason I'm posting this in my dusty old RPOC thread).

I'm excited to make some progress on the '99. I'll be breaking out the random orbit sander to remove this rust and investigating miniature sandblasters, about which my bodywork guy informed me, to get the powder-coat out of the books and crannies.

Chad,

Looks like nice progress on the tub. In the spring of 2000 I spent a lot of time with a quart size sand blaster cleaning a BMW Airhead motorcycle frame. I mean I spent A LOT of time. It worked but was a bundle of labor. A large air compressor and lots of sand is needed. I recycled my sand as I was doing the work on a concrete pad. Coveralls, a face shield and respirator were needed for the entire session. In about 2007 I had a local company blast four alloy motorcycle wheels and the cost was very reasonable. The company also did/does lots of classic car bodywork with good results. If I had a project like your tub I would contact some local car rebuilders and find out who they might be using for their body panels. Results will probably be amazing although you won't have a new blast unit.

Best,

Jeff

I actually just ordered one this evening. I thought it might come in handy.

There's a surprising dearth of sandblasters in my area. I've been calling around, but the shops that blast are a decent drive away.

Chad,
When my 06 tried to rust to the ground, I bought a soda blaster from Harbor Freight. It did a pretty good job. Not as fast as sand but not as hard to clean after either. HF also had spare nozzles and soda at that time.
I may not be good, but I'm slow.

I know you just ordered a blaster, but I saw this recently and thought it was interesting.

Oh, I enjoyed the entire video! Good find.

As soon as my lifelong "germ aware" wife will allow me to leave my home, I plan to make a B-line to the ol' HF for a welder purchase and to eye the blasting products.

Perfect DOA cadaver Project Starter!!
"You CAN'T WRECK JUNK!!
I would think a "Mad Max, Wasteland"
Rig. Then you can keep the Pentina (Rust),
Frankenstein weld, rivit, JB Weld and screws, patch panels in.......
Visit your local recycler for possible parts/panels. And a Tesla employees Flea Bay flame thrower......
Ideas are endless
