"there are two types of people in this world. those who use the metric system and those that have been to the moon."

Correct, however, I suspect they exclusively use the metric system in NASA now. Do you remember the Hubble fiasco? One team/supplier used metric system the other (the other system); after launch/deployment the telescope had serious problem. (yeah launch into space before a systems check, hey, the service call here would only be around 75 USD!)

The main issue was a lens that was not properly ground.

Having shifted from domestic vehicles to "foreign" some years ago, I'm well and comfortably ensconced in the metric system. It's almost an annoyance when I have to temporarily reacclimate myself with Imperial measurements whilst maintaining the US-manufactured machines in my shed.

I'm not so lazy as to try to use metric substitutes, though. If a 5/8" socket is required, I don't go rooting around for the 16mm socket. We may sometimes work slowly here at Lofty's Garage, but we also do things the right way.

My only complaint is that 6 point tools should be easier to find. Real mechanics prefer them with good reason, and so so I. The Craftsman aisle at my local Ace Hardware, for example, is a hot mess of 12 point nonsense. That particular standard has its place, but the corresponding shelf space shouldn't come at the expense of reducing the 6 point selection to almost zero.

Ace Hdwe isn't the only place at which I shop, but it's representative.

I use metric almost exclusively because 99% of my employers machine are metric. I own more metric tools than SAE, and like Lofty, find using Americanese sometimes bothersome, though I will use a 19 on a 3/4”, or vice versa, in a pinch. I would, however, like to fit my hands around the neck of the Einstein that decided it was acceptable to start using an 18mm hex on an M12x1.75 bolt instead of a 19. Worse yet, have both head sizes on the same machine. Arrrghh!

Looks like a truly historical and oddly hysterical year in the news, huh? :-)

Well, since no one else finds it funny enough to mention here, I'll just remind everyone that today is National Fudge day. It isn't a state wide recognized holiday across the country to actually get the day off for, but is is a national holiday, nonetheless :-)

Most interesting situation or statistic now happening during this pandemic. Probably a medical miracle, in fact. I wonder how well it will continue to hold up whenever school actually returns to the classrooms though? As a former elementary school RN, you would not believe how often the phrase of "my stomach hurts" was told to me by the kids, whenever those iron-hard, cold as ice, hot dogs were served every Wednesday in the school cafeteria. :-)

Ya' gotta' admit that Ebay is often very, very funny when you look at the price of some items for sale there.
I wanted a side mounted kickstand for a project bicycle and could not find what I wanted locally, but usually they sell for maybe $8 bucks or so and not for $1,00.46, instead. Gosh, since he has already sold 102 of them, at that price someone selling them here in the USA could probably pay off our national debt in no time, flat. :-)
